Does Susan Boyle Need Another Twinkie, Liposuction, or a Face Transplant?

By now I think everyone in the world has heard of Susan Boyle.

If not, then just Google her, or better yet, go to YouTube and listen to her debut song to the world. That song was spectacular, and moving, Susan Boyle’s First Song. The one that got her into the final’s of Britain’s Got Talent made me cringe. Here is a link to that song: Susan Boyle’s Semi-Final Song. Listen to them both, the difference is like night and day. The first one brings me to tears every time. The second… well, you make the call.

Frankly, I was underwhelmed. Susan Boyle said she felt “unbelievable” and “what pressure?” when asked how she felt and if the pressure was getting to her. I think she was lying.

Her opening notes, which should have been held steady as a rock, warbled like an amateur under pressure. Then, Susan hit several notes just after that were sung distinctly sharp (not on key), and grated on your ear. Frankly, I was disappointed in her performance. Still sporting a powerful voice, the parts belted out sounded fine, if not great.

Overall, however, Susan Boyle’s performance was nowhere near the same level as the first one. It should not have taken her to the finals.

I now realize that the purity of this competition, just like American Idol, and who actually has the best singing voice, has taken a back seat to money, drama, and manipulation of the viewing public. The fact that the judges did not say one bad thing about her performance after this last song says how pre-planned Susan Boyle’s success has been decided is going to be. Just look at some of the YouTube comments and you’ll see they say similar things.

After her first performance there was nothing but pure emotion and overwhelm over her fantastic performance. It was all deserved. This one left questions about whether she can really sing at the highest levels.

I’m sorry about bringing Susan Boyle to the pages of a blog that have to do with health and fitness, but my passion is music, and hearing great artists display their genius talent is one of my favorite pasttimes.

I was expecting another moving performance from Susan Boyle. Instead, I was moved to write this blog post instead because, after the American Idol Adam Lambert ripoff fiasco and now this, I couldn’t stay quiet anymore.

Speaking of Adam, all I can do is kick myself in the proverbial ass that I didn’t watch the entire American Idol season. I had no clue of Adam Lambert’s talent until the last few shows of the year. At first I couldn’t believe what I heard coming from his voice. Several songs later and I was convinced… he has what I consider the most talented male voice this side of Celene Dion – when the yardstick being used to measure is a human voice as a pure singing instrument. The range, accuracy, power, and beautiful sound of Adam’s voice is almost incomprehensible.

Irregardless, I thank American Idol for flushing him out to center stage, where despite the fact he did not win, will still win over the listening public with his amazing voice.

Even the band Queen is considering him for their lead singer. If you have a chance, you must check out Adam singing “We Are The Champions” here: Adam Lampert Singing We Are The Champions. Unfortunately, American Idol winner Kris Allen sings a duet with Adam, and all you think about when hearing Kris sing is, “hurry up and finish so I can hear Adam.”

Sorry for the demeaning title to this blog, I just wanted to get people’s attention. I actually think highly of Susan Boyle and wish her the best.
