I'm 52 and I've pretty much been able to maintain my weight at around 165 for 20 years or so. My guess is that it's the result of dozens of little factors that, when combined, help me to avoid gaining weight. For example, I always buy lean (93%)hamburger at the grocery store, I completely avoid donuts (and sugar) with my morning coffee (although I love eclairs and Boston Creme donuts), I reluctantly avoid mixed Italian sub sandwiches because of the salami and cappicola, and I usually walk a mile to pick up my lunch, rather than having it delivered. I could go on and on, but I guess my point is that little things can add up to big results, so you shouldn't discount the benefits of skipping desserts, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther away from work or shopping (if it's safe), or mowing your lawn using a push mower instead of a riding mower. Small steps, both literally and figuratively, can help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
