RE: Offers to help with my new book

By Harry

I’ll be contacting a lot of you that graciously offered to help with my book. Thanks. I appreciate your patience waiting for me to get back with you.

If you didn’t respond to my email/blog post asking for help with my new book (even those that did), I’d still like to hear from you.

What are some of the things YOU would like in a new book about getting in shape. Maybe it’s something that has been missing from other fitness plan/diet books you’ve gotten in the past. Maybe it’s something that needs better explanation of that you thought was lacking in other books you’ve read. Maybe it’s none of the above.

What do you think the perfect fitness plan needs to include for you to finally achieve fitness success?

Whatever it is, if you’ve got a thought (or three), based on what YOU need, NOT what you perceive the marketplace to need, then I would sincerely love to hear from you about it.

Thanks!

Harry Johnson Jr.

I would like to see at least one chapter dedicated to diabetes. I’ve seen in other books where there are natural ingredients out there available, which (so they say) “cures” the disease but nobody knows what they are…at least I don’t anyway. Another chapter or part of a chapter for my nemesis…gout. The excruciating pain caused by this really puts any kind of fitness plan straight out the preverbial window. They say that tart cherries work, but all that those do is shoot my blood-sugar through the roof. If anybody can make it understandable for me, and put it into terms that I can comprehend, it’s Harry Johnson Jr.
Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait for the book.

I am going to love this book.
I would like to see what would be the best way to exercize when you have back pain. Mine is severe and I really have a problem with the regular exercizes
Just a thought

I’d like to see exercises for those that are unable to get up and exercise as I’ve had tendon repair twice on my ankle and couldn’t exercise during the recovery period and I’m looking at another foot surgery in which I’ll be non-weight bearing for a minimum of five weeks. Exercises that can be done sitting would be very beneficial.

Well Harry there are a lot of books out there and some are better than others. I would like to see truth and simple things that a “normal” person can follow. It can always get more complex as people get used to the new concepts. I feel that anyone can change a little at a time “baby steps” and have a continuously good outcome for years. Good luck with your book and I look forward to seeing it.

I would like to specific address metabolism after after age 40 and beyond. I have always been an avid exerciser and active but after 45 – my metabolism has slowed no matter how much I exercise and seems like I have to really cut back on food. Would be a great topic for us.

One thing I would like to see if how to make choices while you are out. For people who travel a lot, its very difficult to stick to healthy eating habits as there are not many good options for eating out. Most food is full of fat and carbohydrates. Even though I try to avoid fried food (choosing grilled over fried , red meats and sugary drinks (choosing diet cola or water over regular cola), my calorie intake still exceeds the required. Regular fruit, salad, yogurt diet is sometimes boring. So, if you could suggest some foods available easily in fast food shops, I will appreciate it.

I’d like the “unsubscribe” function to work just one time..

Seriously Spamman, this was old more than a year ago when I first was spammed by this site. Now it is just tiring, given all of the efforts you go to in order to get around or distract spam filters.

I lost count of the times that I have tried to block, unsubscribe, or deny these spammings, but rest assured that these efforts are well into double digits..

Hopefully this message will (briefly since I am sure you will delete this) help others to avoid the spam attacks..

I thought Id be the only one to mention this but it seems as if others here have already beat me to it!! Ive read just about every diet and exercise book that has come out in the last 13 years and most if them if not all of them don’t take into consideration that some people might not be able to do certain exercises do to an injury or physical limitations. I for one cannot bend my right wrist because of carpal tunnel/arthritis and this limits some of the exercises I can do. To give you and idea I see that the current trend these days is bodyweight exercises. I can’t even do a pushup and the addition of a work around chapter in an exercise book would be helpful to say the least!! Just for the record Ive overcome that obsticle by using push up bars. I use the bars for burpees and push ups :) I mean I know its common sense to try and find another exercise or another way to do a specific exercise if you can’t perform one but I think it would help a lot of people having an additional chapter dedicated to work arounds.
all the best!!

Not a lot of books give good advice on gaining weight (muscle mass in particular). I am 6′7″ and have always been skinny. I’ve tried fads, the Joe Weider “sand in the face” crap…what it tasted like (or gotta be close to).
I got injured over 5 years ago and had to deal with not being able to do my job, try to do the right thing and move in Customer Service with same company, then my customer service job was eliminated, have to hire an attorney & then find out I had to look and apply for jobs because I didn’t just take a termination from my previous position, deal with all the rejections of companies, have a private investigator follow me, have to deal with pain from my injury, worry about financial problems and have to fight to get specialist, physical therapy and pain specialist…and trying to commit suicide (thank God He was watching out for me).
I’ve done the PT and they told me to get a membership at a health club. I have been going for 2 month’s straight now, and have felt better than I have in many. many, many years.
What I need is proper diet, exercises to help my core get stronger, and I’m no spring chicken, but I’d like to get more definition and gain some muscle mass.Guess that’s all…lol..like that’s not enough. God Bless all & take care.

Harry,
I respect you seemingly bottom-up attitude toward serving your public. I think there are many who would be attracted to prospect of being able to eat junk food, yet maintain good health. Yet, I would personally be more interested in being privy to good council about how to satisfy the appetite for such foods; for advice on understanding why I can’t drive by McDonald’s without succumbing to the aroma that’s whafting around the neighbor like sirene song inviting me to crash on the rocks; in spite of my pre-med education, past macrobiotic lifestyle, long time study of nutritional subjects, experience as a professional athlete and trainer, and my ability to prepare tasty and nutritious meals for myself.
I’ve been living and working in Japan for 17 years. I’ve taught at Tokyo Economics University for 12 years. Over that span of time, I have watched number of fat and out of shape Japanese children grow in direct proportion to the number of western fast food establishments. You write a good book, and I’ll help you get it published in Japanese.

Well I am unable to excercise hard like I use to, thanks to autoimmune disorders and would like to know how to keep my muscles toned and stay slim, in this situation. Also, I think that feeding the mind (and spirit as well) fills the stomach too, so I try to self educate myself on many things…maybe broadening the mind, keeps the hips from broadening? LOL..just a thought. I don’t think there is enough education on what happens if we don’t eat enough, also. With obesity leading in health problems and concerns, I think that undereating is underrepresented.

12

I have seen your interested articles. I have been excising hard over the last three years and have lost 60 lbs, but the weight is now yo-yoing between 255 lbs. and 240 lbs. My main problem is food cravings. It is like an addiction. I could go well on a balanced diet for some time 3, 4 days even a week, then if some thing emotional happens or i am stressed i get these teribble cravings. I would be good to see a chapter on managing cravings. Let me tell you it is a though challange.

I really think you need to make mention of that new ice cream called Arctic Zero. It’s 136 calories per pint, fat free, gluten free, lactose intolerant friendly, it has a lot of protein in it, and it’s good. The website is http://www.myarcticzero.com

One of the things that I’d like to see in a book that I would buy and share with a lot of people is:

Gym-free routines. I.e. strategies and techniques for getting great whole body workouts while traveling, or for those that are intimidated to start going to a gym.

Good morning and thanks for allowing me this opportunity to ask questions that are rather important to myself and other women who have had c-sections.

Grant it, there are times when I don’t eat as nutritiously as I should and can, but overall I try. I do work out and walk.

Having a time with my midsection, I am smaller than I was, not where I desire to be!!!!!

Help!!!!

16

A section on how pregnant women can lose their belly fat. What’s the difference between regular fat and fat from a pregnancy.

17

Awesome news Gary! I eat fat free treats as often as possible and we are lactose intolerant. I have never heard of arctic zero but am checking out the site. I have tried Bryers fat free ice cream and it aint’ bad. I fear though, that the truth is that somehow it aint’ good for us lol.

@ Ralph “Not a lot of books give good advice on gaining weight (muscle mass in particular)”

Hey Ralph.. Cool name By the way lol!! I don’t mean to spam Harry’s site but there are 3 great books for gaining muscle mass that you should look into. One is Undergroung mass Secrets By James Jordan, Bodybuilding revieled by Will Brink and Anthony Ellis’ Gaining mass.

I would like to see the book easy to read and understand. A section to special food to healp people with diabetes. There are herbs to help with diabetes and I would like to see the list in your book. How carbs play a big roll in fighting diabetes.

20

Its great offer, Its very helpful for me and my friends. I will share this with another to provide them a very useful information.

I would love to see in your new book a very individual caloric intake plan and how to determine exactly how many calories one individual needs in order to lose a certain amount of weight. This should be highly customized and a dynamic process. As we all know everybody has a different metabolism rate and most books and plans out there do not get into the individual body. Most plans do have say three types of caloric guidelines (light, normal and heavy people) or a certain formular how to determine how many calories you need.
I have made the experience that those formulars do not work for me that well and I am getting very frustated because I dont get the results I expected and am sad If I read a new diet book which does not consider the different body types.

What I would like is a more detailed guideline with a individualization algorithm and troubleshooting section like you (Harry) would do it if one of your online clients had problems losing weight/getting results. I for a example could imagine something like the following:
Determine a starting caloric point based on lean body mass, weight yourself/calipper everyday by eating as much as you do not lose or gain weight for at least a week (this could also restart a “broken” metabolism if one is already eating too few and a good start into your program), start dropping calories a bit see what happens (e.g. draw coloric intake vs. body fat curves).
For this the calorie count has to be consistend and accurately (you have to tell this explicitely in your book). If you lose too much weight(not bodyfat), up calories a bit if not drop a bit further. Dont drop calories drastically.
Troubleshooting could be a section where you talk about people should not be getting nervous if weight is not dropping or if weight gains due to water retentions like salty foods or due to women’s menstruation.
Sorry for my bad english :-(

A few more notes:

-a really cool thing would be if you could get someone programming a caloric tracker and advisor for your website with target goal, current weight which intelligently adjusts the caloric intake itself like in the diet power software based on your scale/caliper measurements…if its going up it will give you less calories to eat etc. .

- a section where you go into intensity measurements (how to determine the right intensity needed). i have made the experience that I and other people do not train as intense enough to get results. You should write in your book how to train (not just lifting light weights) to get results (a description what you should think and do if the weight cant be pushed any further etc.)

-a whole chapter when you reached your goal how to keep the weight off and the motivation high for good.

-what to do when you cheated, fall off the wagon howto go back on track, what if you have no more motivation, energy, when the going get tough.

Hello Harry,
I’ve noticed a few people who have refered to problems after havine children as have I. My tummy muscles just do not want to respond even though I try so hard. I’ve had 5 children and still look like I’m pregnant 3 years later after the last. I do not eat junk food and I do seriously try to work out regularly I just don’t know how to ‘reach’ those muscles anymore. I have tried a lot of what you have suggested. How do you do it? I just want my ab muscles back!

I would like to see information on how to keep a good lean body after the age of 50, menopause and stress. No matter what I seem to do I cannot lose weight or keep myself in good shape. Also I am limited on what kind of exercising I can do because of a very bad car accident several years ago. Thanks for your help with this
