Why Is Your New “Effective Weight Loss Diet” Broken?

Listen closely…. shhhh… there it is again…
Man that sounds familiar… where have I heard it before…
Oh yeah, now I remember…
Riding down the street on our bikes as a kids, my friends and I used to attach playing cards to the spokes of our wheels with clotheshangar pins.
Why?
Cause it made a cool sound! Vroom, vroooooom! As long as the wheels were spinning we sounded like we had souped up motorcycles. And the faster we went, the louder and fiercer the sound became. We were the terrors of the neighborhood, announcing our arrival everywhere we went. We thought we were so cool…
Inevitably, those playing cards would disintegrate, or the clotheshangar pin would break, and then there would be silence… only the rubber of the tires meeting the pavement… and our excitement and coolness over this “new” sound would come to a screeching halt…
We’d go through a deck of cards in an afternoon (after all, there were 4 of us and those playing cards and clotheshangars seemed to break quick the faster we went — and we ALWAYS wanted to go fast).
So our “motorcycle racing” careers were typically over before they even got started. Retired before our times, we figured out other ways to entertain ourselves, like the time we were tasked to mop up the floor of my best friend’s house, but instead we discovered “pecans and butter” and “sliding” across the floor instead of using the mop… but that’s another story for another day.
What the heck does this have to do with an effective weight loss diet?!?, you might ask. Good question… here’s how.
How many people do you think start a new “effective weight loss diet” on an annual basis? You know, the ones so highly promoted by each program that sells their version of the nirvana diet.
It’s at least in the millions, if not tens of millions annually, right?
How many successes would you suppose come from all those tries at getting in shape?
You should know, because you’ve tried several diets in the past without success too. We all have.
Listen, I’m here to tell you there is no magic bullet. Yes, there are things you can do to accelerate your weight (fat) loss, and make it easier to diet (like including your favorite foods — even junk food — on a regular basis, for instance). But, the fat won’t magically come off by itself.
All of us in the gang COULD HAVE become professional motorcycle racers if we really wanted to. Truly! It’s just we quit when the cards or clotheshangers broke. We stopped trying to become what we thought we wanted so bad… or did we really not want it that bad.
Maybe you really don’t want to get in shape that bad. Maybe you’re just going through the motions because you want to lose a few dress sizes, or you want to look good in a bikini, or you want some ripped abs.
THESE ARE N-O-T GOOD ENOUGH REASONS MY FRIEND!
You need to dig down deep inside and figure out what is really motivating you to change your body. I’m talking about the deep-seated, psychological reason why you want to get into great shape (We all have one).
WHY?
Because you’re going to come across the inevitable hurdles and roadblocks that EVERYONE experiences whenever they start a journey of improving their body. I can GUARANTEE YOU that you will. You’ve probably had “things” happen to you in the past that prevented you from getting in shape the last time you tried.
So the key is in finding that “thing” that will get you through the hurdles you’ll inevitably see. Because this “thing” is a truly powerful, and motivational thing you want to see fulfilled. It will override the roadblock that is threatening to make you quit because the pain of not getting your “thing” is worse than the perceived pain and effort you’re experiencing with your roadblock.
And you have to keep this “thing” at the forefront of your daily existence, preferably writing it down on a 3 x 5 card to read before you go to bed, and upon awakeing.
Think this is a bit much?
Think again, my unbelieving friend.
The best professional athletes use a similar type of imagery to improve their game. It’s well documented.
I personally used this technique to help me make more changes in 16 weeks, than in the previous 8 years combined. It allowed me to win the 1998 Body For Life contest.
