<p>&#8220;quick&#8221; is a relevant term-it&#8217;s all &#8220;in the eye of the beholder&#8221;, as the old saying goes. You see, weight loss, in order to be successful, has to be a process (and by &#8220;successful&#8221; I mean you will not get sick in the process and you KEEP the weight off). The TYPE of food you put into your body will determine how successful the diet aspect will be. <p>If, on the other hand you get your calories from highly processed foods, sodas, and other unhealthy sources, not only are you bound to overeat, but you are filling your body with toxins while you are at it. Even your conscience plays a role. Why do you think they call them &#8220;GUILTY pleasures&#8221;? Well, because these sugary, fatty foods taste great but you and I both know they take a toll on your waistline. Now this doesn&#8217;t mean you can never have a piece of grandma&#8217;s heavenly chocolate chip cookies&#8211;it just means don&#8217;t have the whole batch and definitely don&#8217;t indulge everyday.</p>
<p>And as far exercise goes-well, you gotta do it. There&#8217;s no way around this one if you really want to reach your full potential. Diet can only take you so far. Cutting calories to lose weight is part of the equation, but again you need enough to keep going. So how do you create that &#8220;calorie deficit&#8221; to shed the pounds? You got it-by exercising.</p>

<p>Still out of shape after trying the latest and greatest &#8220;lose weight fast&#8221; do-dad, most give up. Then they gain even more weight, then try again some time down the road, only to repeat the pattern once again in a vicious, never-ending cycle.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Are you simply trying to lose weight but refuse (whether knowingly or not) to change your basic eating habits?</span></p>

<p><strong>The one thing that people unsuccessfully trying to lose fat have in common is their &#8220;out of whack&#8221; diet, even if they think it&#8217;s good.</strong></p>
<p>There are several reasons why&#8230;</p>
<p>1. Most people don&#8217;t actually track the amount of food they put into their bodies. They assume they&#8217;re eating a certain number of calories when in fact they&#8217;re taking in quite a bit more. And, you can gain fat even eating only healthy foods.</p>
<p>2. They unknowingly eat foods that promote hunger and an out of whack hormonal response (which tends to increase, not decrease fat storage).</p>

<p>3. They don&#8217;t think &#8221;Lifestyle Change&#8221;. Instead, they want the quick-fix diet. You need to find a diet that you can live with, is satisfying to you, and helps promote fat loss and good health.</p>
<p>Notice I haven&#8217;t even spoken about exercise. <strong>Exercise should <span style="text-decoration: underline;">not</span> be the primary focus when wanting to lose fat. </strong>Exercise is important, but <strong>getting your diet in order first is much more significant</strong> in its ability to allow you to shed unwanted pounds. Why? Because you cannot out-train a bad diet&#8230; period! Get your diet straight first, or else you may never get in shape.</p>
<h3>Here&#8217;s some rules you can follow to help you&#8230;</h3>
<p><strong>RULE #1: DON&#8217;T PUT THE OFFENDING FOOD IN THE HOUSE IN THE FIRST PLACE</strong>!</p>
<p>Your kids may complain and you may feel like you&#8217;re depriving them (when in fact you&#8217;re harming them in 2 ways &#8212; by giving them junk food and teaching them it&#8217;s ok to eat it; a habit that will be hard to break when they grow up). Get over it! You&#8217;re the boss so do the right thing for them and for you.</p>
<p>Listen, I&#8217;m no better. If the offending food is in the house there&#8217;s a good chance I&#8217;ll eat it. So I make sure it&#8217;s never there. I promise you won&#8217;t miss it after awhile.</p>
<p>And this doesn&#8217;t mean you&#8217;ll have to stay away from your favorite foods forever either. In a second I&#8217;ll show you how you can occasionally eat them and still stay in great shape.</p>
<p><strong>RULE #2: FOR 2 WEEKS WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU EAT.</strong></p>
<p>This does 2 things. It shows you really weren&#8217;t eating as little as you thought you were. And it reveals you eating quite a bit more &#8221;forbidden&#8221; foods than you thought. <p><strong>RULE #4: GET A FOOD SCALE.</strong></p>
<p>I know&#8230;you think, &#8221;what a pain!&#8221; But it&#8217;s only for 2-3 weeks. What happens is after consistently weighing your foods, you&#8217;ll get quite good at &#8221;eyeballing&#8221; the proper portion sizes for you. You&#8217;ll have trained yourself to very accurately estimate the correct amounts for you. <p>But, instead of focusing on diet failures, what&#8217;s different about people who don&#8217;t gain weight back? And who do figure out the &#8220;right&#8221; tips to lose weight fast?</p>
<p>160 people were consulted, each of whom had lost at least 20 pounds (average weight loss for this group turned out to be 63 pounds) and who had kept the weight off for at least three years.</p>
<p>It turned out that there were <strong>10 common tips to lose weight fast</strong> among these &#8220;successful losers&#8221;&#8230;<span id="more-1864"></span></p>
<h4>1. THEY BELIEVED THEY COULD DO IT.</h4>
<p>Most of the people surveyed had lost and regained their weight at least five times before successfully keeping it off. But they didn&#8217;t give up.</p>

<p>The turning point for many of them came when they realized they were sick and tired of the weight-loss battle. Instead of using this feeling as an excuse to stop trying to lose weight, however, the successful dieters somehow felt empowered by it. The feeling made them resolve to take control.</p>
<h4>2. THEY LOST WEIGHT FOR THEMSELVES &#8211; NOT SOMEONE ELSE.</h4>
<p>All her life, one young woman interviewed had been told by her mother (and everyone else), &#8220;You have such a pretty face &#8211; if only you&#8217;d lose some weight!&#8221;</p>
<p>She lost and gained weight repeatedly. Inside, she was angry that people didn&#8217;t accept her the way she was. By the time she entered college, she weighed more than 200 pounds. But it was there that she met a man who loved her that way.</p>
<p>Ironically, because she finally felt accepted, she was able to lose weight once and for all &#8212; for her own sake.</p>
<h4>3. THEY FOUND OUT WHAT WORKED FOR THEM.</h4>
<p>About half the people lost weight on their own. Others used a commercial diet center or a self-help group&#8230;or consulted privately with a professional.</p>
<p>In addition, successful people learned to accept a target weight that was realistic for them. However, in defense of these people, I believe they would have gotten better results had they used a program that would have allowed more and better success to happen for them. In other words, for the same efforts they expended, they would have gotten into better shape, without feeling deprived, and without as much effort, with a more effective program.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not about starving yourself, but doing the right things to cause weight and fat loss to happen &#8212; by working with the body instead of against it.</p>
<h4>4. THEY WERE WILLING TO LEARN A NEW WAY OF EATING &#8212; FOR LIFE.</h4>
<p>Many dieters go back to their old eating habits once they lose weight. That&#8217;s why most dieters regain weight.</p>

<p>The weight-control masters accepted their new way of eating as a way of life. They learned to enjoy fruits, vegetables, and lean, healthy meats (instead of tastier, but more fat-laden ones).</p>
<p>They found ways to add low-calorie flavor by using spices, lemon or lime juice and low/no-sugar products. Gradually, they noticed that they didn&#8217;t feel good when they ate they way they used to.</p>
<h5>5. THEY DEAL WITH SLIPUPS IMMEDIATELY.</h5>
<p>While they aren&#8217;t obsessed with the scale, most weigh themselves once a week to once every few days. They have a narrow window of acceptable weight regain (typically five to 10 pounds). When their weight exceeds this &#8220;buffer zone,&#8221; they do what&#8217;s necessary to lose it.</p>

<p>Some people exercise more. Others cut back on sweets&#8230;pay closer attention to portion sizes&#8230;or keep a food diary to increase their awareness of what they eat. <p>The weight-loss masters give themselves positive and encouraging messages even when they make mistakes: &#8220;I resolved not to eat two helpings, but I slipped. I&#8217;ll be more careful the rest of the day.&#8221;</p>
<h4>7. THEY EXERCISE.</h4>

<h4>8. THEY FACE THEIR FEELINGS.</h4>
<p>Back when they were overweight, many of the people automatically turned to food whenever they felt upset, bored, lonely or anxious.</p>

<p>Many of their solutions are quite simple. When bored, they leave the house and do something fun. When lonely, they call a friend. When angry, they confront the person who&#8217;s mistreating them.</p>
<h4>9. THEY ENJOY LIFE.</h4>
<p>A number of the now-successful people used to spend so much energy taking care of others that they neglected their own needs. Eating was their only reward.</p>
<p>Some people who kept weight off have developed what I call a &#8220;healthy selfishness.&#8221; They&#8217;re still considerate to others, but they take care of themselves, too.</p>
<p>As one woman put it, &#8220;I found that when my own needs were met, I was better at meeting the needs of others.&#8221;</p>
<p>They&#8217;ve also found ways to reward themselves without food &#8212; from pursuing a job by to seeking more satisfying relationships.</p>
<h4>10. THEY GET SUPPORT.</p>

<p>I told her I was on my way home from school and thought I&#8217;d stop by to say hi, so she invited me in and we sat down on her couch to talk. The topic revolved around her friend who was overweight, and if I had any <a title="tips to lose weight fast" href="http://www.harryjohnsonjr.com/dieting/fast-weight-loss-challenge-can-eating-junk-food-make-you-lose-weight-quicker" target="_self"><em>tips to lose weight fast</em></a> I could pass on. Back then I didn&#8217;t know nearly as much as I know now about how to lose weight fast, but I did have a few <a title="tips to lose weight fast" href="http://www.webmd.com/diet/guide/lose-weight-fast-how-to-do-it-safely" target="_blank">tips to lose weight fast</a> I gave her.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t usually drink, even back then in college, but I offered to go get us some beer as I said I was thirsty too. She said, <em>&#8220;Sure!&#8221;</em> with a big smile I&#8217;ll never forget&#8230;</p>

<p>When I got back she had changed into a slightly sexier outfit, but I feigned I didn&#8217;t notice. In the back of my mind I started to think about what was starting to shape up here&#8230; and I kept thinking about her boyfriend, who was my friend.</p>
<p>A couple of beers each later, and we&#8217;re on the floor practicing some gymnastics moves. I&#8217;m lifting her over my head, our bodies connecting, more beer flowing, more touching, hearts racing, mind wandering, eyes locking, lips touching&#8230; Can I leave the rest to your imagination?</p>
<p>Lisa, fast weight loss tips, and sex&#8230; all on the agenda one late summer afternoon a long time ago&#8230;</p>
<p>What does this have to do with you, my dear friend and reader?</p>
<p>Plenty!</p>
<p>Did you know sex can burn lots of calories? I calculated that Lisa and I burned close to 500 calories each that memorable summer afternoon. And what a way to burn calories, huh?</p>
<p><strong>Here&#8217;s what else I want to help you with&#8230; </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Eliminating Confusion!</strong></p>
<p>Lisa&#8217;s friend just didn&#8217;t know much about losing fat, so I gave Lisa my best tips to lose weight fast I had at the time. But the world is filled with information (and even more <em>mis-</em>information).</p>
<p>For instance, in researching writing this article, the first 2 websites/blogs I came across had these things to say (all patently false &#8211; so don&#8217;t follow, just learn):</p>
<p>1. Top 5 Cardiovascular Activities &#8211; Power walking (at home and at the gym &#8211; they couldn&#8217;t even come up with a real 5th activity and had to differentiate by saying &#8220;home&#8221; or &#8220;gym&#8221;), swimming, yoga, dancing.</p>
<p>Folks, these &#8220;activities&#8221; are not even close to the best cardiovascular activities you can do. They&#8217;re actually probably the easiest ones you can do. <strong>EASY DOES NOT EQUATE TO &#8220;TOP&#8221; or &#8220;BEST&#8221;</strong>. If it&#8217;s too easy then you&#8217;re not going to get much benefit out of it, and you&#8217;re going to wonder why you still cannot lose weight/fat.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, the TOP cardiovascular activities involve &#8220;discomfort&#8221;. There, I said it. Listen, the real deal to getting into TOP shape involves &#8220;effort&#8221;. Some &#8220;huffing and puffing&#8221; is going to be expected.</p>
<p>If all you can do due to your limited physical abilities is one of the above &#8220;recommended&#8221; activities, then by all means do them. But don&#8217;t expect any kind of miraculous changes to happen to your body.</p>
<p><strong>HERE&#8217;S A KEY POINT TO REMEMBER:</strong></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Even the best exercises in the world CANNOT overcome a bad diet</span>. A bad diet will cancel out every single exercise tips to lose weight fast you can conjure up. And when I say, &#8220;bad diet&#8221;, it can be as simple as your calories in being <em>greater than</em> the calories you burn on a daily basis.</p>
<p>In fact, the <strong>#1 Most Important Tips To Lose Weight Fast</strong> should always start with this recommendation:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>You M-U-S-T Track Your Daily Caloric Intake!</strong></p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t, you&#8217;re on the surest path to failure you can imagine. Even I (not special by any means, but certainly just a little bit knowledgeable about the foods I should be eating to lose weight fast), cannot lose weight/fat if I do not track my calories EVERY SINGLE DAY.</p>
<p>You want the harsh reality of the truth? Then there it is gentlemen and gentlewomen. <strong>&#8220;Don&#8217;t track&#8230; don&#8217;t lose.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Now, maintenance is altogether another thing. Once you reach your goal weight then you could possibly let up on the tracking for two reasons.</p>
<p>1. Over the course of time it took you to get in shape (by tracking your daily caloric intake), you&#8217;ve come to learn what the right foods are to eat, but also&#8230;</p>
<p>2. You&#8217;ve trained your &#8220;eyes&#8221; to recognize the approximate portions of those foods that should be sitting on your plate too.</p>
<p>If you keep eating the same foods and &#8220;eyeball&#8221; your portion sizes, you&#8217;ll probably be able to maintain your weight. But if it starts creeping back up again&#8230; you now know what to do to get started making progress again. Just review your daily calorie log to see how many calories it takes for YOU to lose weight/fast.</p>
