We all know how difficult it is to stay in shape and find time for fitness- but most especially for women with babies or small kids. There’s the sleep-deprivation factor, the “I have a school project due tomorrow” factor, the “mom I’m hungry” factor, and 100’s of others that just zap any free time for mom’s these days.

So what are the fitness options for busy “super moms”? The fact is, the more you can take of yourself and the better

Fitness can be fun when you include your kids in different activities.

you feel, the stronger you will be physically and emotionally to take on the day with the “little ones” and all of life’s challenges. Here are some quick, but effective exercise ideas – specifically designed for the busy Mom – to keep you strong and prevent future injuries that may occur with poor lifting biomechanics and poor posture.

The heavy weight of not just the baby, but also all the fun gadgets you’re expected to lug around can definitely take a toll on your back. It’s no surprise that our bodies need a little help to get through the day. Keeping active and fit cannot only be good for your body but can also help you spend some quality time with your kids.

Here are some ideas:

1. If you have a young baby, include him or her in your exercise routine. For example, lay your baby on a towel on the floor. Do assisted push-ups and every time you go down, give your baby a kiss. He os she will love the attention and being so close to “mommy”.

2. Participate in a mini “obstacle course” in your backyard or local playground with your kids.

3. Once your kids are old enough, have them accompany you on a bike ride in a safe location.

4. Do relay races with your kids and a few of their friends.

5. For younger babies, seat them in a stroller and go for a walk (or a jog if you have a jogging stroller).

6. Jump rope, play ball, or “hide-and-seek” with your kids in the park.

Now no one said being a mom is easy, on the contrary, I think it’s one of the tougher jobs out there. It’s being on call 24 hours a day, so I understand that it’s often hard finding time to yourself. But remember, taking care of your health will help you be a better mother to your kids. You will have more energy and feel better all around and able to better enjoy your time with them.

Physically handicapped people can also benefit from fitness programs tailored to their needs.

without any strain, while being alert and energetic enough to endure any stressful activities. It is basically a condition wherein, all the major parts of the body, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, bones and muscles are in proper working condition. There are four aspects related to physical fitness: cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, and muscular endurance and flexibility.

Fitness programs are the path to having a healthy body. They are the perfect way to incorporate exercise into the daily routine. Fitness programs, when followed religiously, are a remarkable way to counter several diseases, even in old age. Fitness programs need a lot of commitment and hard work. There are several stages in incorporating a fitness program into your daily routine.

The first thing is to check your present health condition to determine what kind of a program would suit you. This requires a basic health check up of blood pressure, diabetes-check, and a full work over for any suspected diseases, and past injuries. Also, consider your family history. Are you prone to heart attacks, strokes, arthritis, and other ailments?

Another major aspect in physical fitness is the body’s composition, which indicates the makeup of the body in terms of the ratio of lean mass to fat mass. Lean mass is comprised of muscle, bone, vital tissue and organs. Good fitness programs take all these physical conditions of the person into account. The ideal exercise regime for a person will suit his/her body type. This is also contingent upon one’s objective be it weight loss, physical strength, or something else.

Fitness programs are composed of several kinds of activities such as: aerobics, aquatic exercises, golf, walking, skipping, jogging, swimming, bicycling, running, skiing, or playing sports like tennis and squash.
The program should be chosen to suit your fitness level. It should be enjoyable, with realistic goals, and should fit well with your lifestyle. Some people may not see immediate results. Depending on the program as well as their body type results may vary. Patience is very important.

Another way to make things more interesting is changing upwhat type of exercise you do. You can opt for an instructor for special kinds of fitness programs or for group fitness programs. People with disabilities need to follow fitness programs consistently as well and will see a huge improvement in all aspects of life.

There are many professional fitness centers that have sophisticated equipment to suit all kinds of people and fitness needs. These centers have professionals and medical specialists who would be able to offer advice about the best kind of fitness program to take up. They provide customized workout routines, nutrition plans, personal trainers, and expert guidance to make the results last.

The important thing is to make the decision to become more physically fit and get to it right away. Don’t let another day go by living below your full potential.

Now, all of you know by now that I am quite the exercise enthusiast, to say the least. But I did want to take an opportunity to remind everyone that fitness excellence does not mean being excessively skinny, or starving yourself or exercising to the point where you are compromising your health in an effort to lose weight. These are not ways to achieve fitness excellence; rather they are signs of serious conditions such as body dysmorphia or eating disorders such as “anorexia nervosa” and bulimia, among others.

In our society, the perceived perfect image of women, especially, falls right in line with the slenderness of girls 10 to 12 years old. This unrealistic perception spawned by the supermodels seen today in ads for popular clothing and undergarment makers has caused many women to become obsessed with their own images. In our society, women are ten times more likely to develop eating disorders and compulsive exercise habits that can be life threatening and often do prove to be fatal, than men.

“Anorexia nervosa”, for example, is a life threatening disorder that occurs when a person eats very little food and

Over exercising and excessive dieting will not lead to fitness excellence.

become obsessed about your weight even when you are already underweight. An anorexic person will often see themselves as being fat when they look at themselves in the mirror even though they appear very skinny to everyone else. People with this disorder often turn to laxatives and various diet aids such as fat burning pills to bring their weight down to dangerous levels.

“Bulimia” is another eating disorder that occurs when a person goes on an “eating binge”, and then immediately forces themselves to purge (vomit/ excrete) the food eaten so as not to store any calories from the food eaten. People suffering from bulimia will eat a large amount of food, even junk food, and then get it all back out by self-induced vomiting and laxative use. This practice can severely throw off your body’s nutrient and mineral balance in the blood and put a person’s health and life at risk.

“Compulsive overeating” followed by “compulsive over exercising” is a pattern that is not as dangerous as anorexia and bulimia but still can lead to both physical and psychological problems. This is a pattern in which you will eat a large amount of food followed up immediately by exercising excessively hard and for a long period of time. It is estimated that more than one out of three college female athletes may, at one time or another, develop an eating disorder. If you suffer from an eating disorder, seek medical help as soon as possible because if left untreated, these disorders can cause permanent health problems and even death.

Remember, part of “fitness excellence” is a balance between body and mind. By starving ourselves or over-exercising, we are doing both our minds and bodies more harm than good. Moderation, balance, and persistence are the key qualities of achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

With the prevalence of arthritis projected to increase by more than 50 percent in the next 25 years, experts are urging Americans to get moving. Doing so could prevent or control joint pain and arthritis. Arthritis is the nation’s leading cause of disability, affecting 66 million Americans. It strikes people of all ages, including 300,000 children.

For the one in three Americans with arthritis, the pain and inflammation associated with this chronic condition can

Physical fitness can help prevent arthritis later in life.

limit everyday activities such as walking, dressing and even bathing. It also comes with a stiff price tag, costing the U.S. $86.2 billion annually in direct medical costs and indirect medical costs, such as losses in productivity.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, practicing healthy behaviors now, such as increasing physical activity and maintaining an ideal weight and fitness level, can help prevent or reduce joint pain and arthritis later in life. “Walking is a great example of a simple activity we can do to promote health,” said Dr. Patience White, chief public health officer of the Arthritis Foundation. “A 30-minute walk most days of the week, or even three 10-minute walks, reduces joint pain and stiffness, builds muscles around the joints, increases flexibility and endurance and improves overall health and fitness.” Dr. White adds that physical activity also promotes weight loss. For people above their ideal weight, losing as little as 11 pounds can decrease the risk of osteoarthritis or slow its progression.

Now many of us with older parents or grandparents have seen the debilitating effects of arthritis. It is upsetting to see a once lively person slowly being consumed by such a terrible disease. While we still don’t have all the facts or sure cure for arthritis, we can do our part by encouraging relatives (or even ourselves) to take action now and start exercising to alleviate some of the pain.

One of the most powerful things you can do to assure continued progress is to tell someone of your fitness plans. Psychologically, we are stronger at performing and keeping to a task if we tell someone we are going to do it. You are being held accountable to that person for following through on your promise to complete the program.

Ask this person to call or keep in touch with you on a regular basis. Then, provide them with feedback on your

A workout partner will help you stay focused and motivated throughout your fitness journey.

progress. Tell this person that there may come a time in your fitness program when you’re struggling, and that, under no circumstances is he or she to be sympathetic with your struggles. Instruct them to do everything in their power to get you to continue on track. Give them a copy of your contract so they can see and use it, if need be, when the time comes.

When selecting the person whom you will hold yourself accountable to, choose carefully. There is a possibility that, if you chose the wrong person, instead of supporting your decision, they will attempt to talk you out of it and even ridicule your efforts. There are many reasons why this happens. Many people feel insecure about their own poor shape. They know they need to do something about their condition, but for a variety of reasons they don’t. When someone comes along and “upsets the apple cart,” so to speak, by reminding them of their own poor shape and eating habits, and the fact they don’t do anything about it, they become upset. In truth, they are upset with themselves, but instead of using this anger constructively, it is often reflected back on the person that caused the feelings to surface.

So, they may attempt to talk you out of doing what you have learned is the best way of transforming your body and life. In their own minds they think they’re doing you a favor by getting you to quit. Even well intentioned family and friends will try and sabotage your efforts if only to make themselves feel better about their own situation. PLEASE DON’T FALL FOR THIS! And it may become difficult because several friends or family member may attempt to derail you this way.

You will notice a pattern amongst those that support your decision for a new body from those that don’t. Those that

When both workout buddies commit to a fitness program there is a sense of bonding and of not wanting to let the other person down.

support are usually secure in themselves, and confident enough not to feel threatened by your quest for self-improvement. The majority of them will probably not be overweight, and if they are, are probably only marginally so. On the other side, those that attempt to “talk you out of it” will typically have a poor body image of themselves, probably because they are overweight and out of shape. These people may have attempted and failed at losing fat and getting in shape many times before, and definitely don’t want to see someone succeed at what they were, and continue to be, failures at.

It’s human nature to feel this way because if you do succeed, chances are they will feel even worse about themselves than before, at least at first. And although they typically are the last ones to support you in your efforts, they will eventually ask you to help them with their own programs. And rather then holding a grudge against them for their initially negative feelings, understand where they were coming from and provide them the help and encouragement they are now seeking from you. You will have the knowledge and power to allow truly miraculous changes to occur within this person, so don’t be selfish – give it away for free. The intangible gifts you’ll receive will come back to you ten-fold in return.

Finally, using a workout partner or buddy will help you tremendously in your goal for a better body. When you both commit to this program there is a sense of bonding and of not wanting to let the other person down. This feeling and sense of responsibility to one another may be that little extra you need that will allow you to fully follow through with this program to completion. If one morning you wake up and really don’t feel like working out, having a workout partner that you know is counting on you to be there at the gym may very well make the difference between your ultimate success and failure.

Lesson #8: Make Fast Progress

Achieving fast fitness results is super important to your future and continued success. When you make fast progress you are immediately rewarded for your hard efforts. I promise you, nobody likes to work hard at anything, regardless of what it may be, and not receive any benefit from it. The principle applies to your body transformation efforts.

Lots of people start exercise and nutrition programs and then drop out just as quickly as they started. They don’t achieve what they feel is significant progress for their efforts and give up.

Achieving fast, visible results is essential in helping people stay on track while trying to achieve Fitness Excellence.

Most everything you do in life, you do with the expectation of some kind of reward in return. If there is no payoff for the work you’re doing you’ll most likely stop doing it if the payoff is not greater than the effort. Let me give you an example here so you can understand why:

“OK. I don’t know what to say, but all I know is that what is working for the rest of you, is NOT working for me. I’ve stuck in there, but I’m afraid I’m done. I’m sick of depriving myself of the food I love, and not seeing any results. By this time, I should have. So, I’m going to try something else. I’ll still read the messages, because I have learned a lot about nutrition. I’m not totally bailing, but no matter what I do, my weight stays the same. My body stays the same. So, I see no reason not to indulge myself every now and then. Good luck to those of you who are getting results. You are a great bunch of people.”

Do you see what happened here? This person “busted her butt” for a short period of time, ate right (or at least said she did though it’s doubtful she really did), and exercised. But she felt nothing happened. And because her ‘payoff’ was perceived as nothing, she felt the trade-off for having to sacrifice her favorite foods was not worth it. This perfectly normal human reaction is one that can hinder our progress – as it did above – or allow us to make spectacular gains. You may be wondering how the same human trait can do both.

Well here’s the answer.

Nobody wants to sacrifice for nothing. People will sacrifice, but they must expect and receive more in return than the ‘cost’ of the sacrifice. If the return they get is not worth the sacrifice, then the effort in attempting to achieve the payoff will overwhelm them before the payoff happens. So, how do you get around this and turn it to your advantage? By making fast progress.

If you make significant achievements toward fitness excellence in a short period of time this creates an impetus for you to continue forward. You become excited, and you say to others, “see, this works, I’m losing fat!” Your attitude becomes upbeat, cheerful, and you are super motivated about continuing on with eating right and exercising regularly. The small victories fuel future larger victories, and they all add up to a self-fulfilling prophecy of eventual success.

How, then, do you make fast progress a reality? By following the scientifically proven principles I give you in your Amazing Fat Burning Formula manual. When you combine these principles of diet and exercise, the result is a

Don't forget to record your progress so you can see just how far you've come on your journey to be fit!

synergistic melding that produces greater results than the combined total of the individual components.

There is a danger, however, in the fact that you may be making progress, but think that you are not. That is why Lesson #7, Measure Your Progress, is so important.

Consider the person, who though she stayed the same weight, was actually making considerable progress because her body composition was changing. If she hadn’t used the tools I talked about to assess her progress she might have been disappointed and could easily have thrown in the towel because she “hadn’t lost any weight.” So, to assure that your “head” is in the game, you must continue to make progress. And, that will be a given if you follow my instructions.

So, get ready, get set, and go…fast, towards reaching your fitness goals!

So I woke up WAY TOO EARLY today at 7:45 am.

You see, I went to bed just 3 hours and 45 minutes before, yep – 4 am. Been doing this quite regularly lately… seems I’ve turned into quite the night owl.

It’s the only way to get anything done with all the distractions during the day and family time I need to attend to.

So I’m taking my son to school in the morning, he’s having his kid-healthy shake I taught my wife to make him (fresh-frozen fruit – strawberries, blueberries, peaches, grapes, apples, a banana, a healthy protein powder I found, and some UDO’s choice “healthy blend” oil), drinking it down to the last drop (he absolutely loves fruit as I’ve given it to him since birth and his school “snack” consists of dried apricots, prunes, raisins, and cashews while the other kids eat all manner of empty and nutritionally worthless snacks).

Did I tell you he won an award from the school as “The Healthiest Child in Cushman”. I’m so proud.

Anyway, so I’m dropping him off, and I look at most of the parents there. Almost all are out of shape and/or overweight. Especially the superintendent of the school.

On my way home I start to think of all the things I have to do, making a mental note to remember to do certain things.

When I get to my office I start to write, as is my daily habit, all of the things floating around in my head so my head doesn’t get clogged down with having to remember so many things I have to do.

So when I finish my “to-do” list for the day, it comes to 18 items. And I total up the time I’ve allotted for each one and it comes to a stunning 14 hours (now you know why I stay up until 4 am all the time…)

A lot of things to do… I know. But you’re no different, you also have tons to do every single day of your life… never seeming to be able to quite do everything you want or need to do.

Well, with my busy schedule I know if I don’t schedule in time for my workout, that it certainly won’t happen just by itself. So I pencil in 30 minutes for my workout. Then I thought about having to drive (or bike, as I usually do) to where I workout, and the ride back, and then showering… and I knew that 30 minute workout would take 60 minutes or more of my time today.

So what I resolved to do, like I did the other day, is to exercise using only my bodyweight, right here in the office.

The other day I was scheduled to work out my legs, but didn’t have tons of time, so I just went right outside my office, found a flat bench (the kind you sit on, not lift weights on), stepped up on it, and started to do my single-leg squats. In 15 minutes I finished having one of the better leg workouts I can remember in a while.

Now, I don’t recommend this exercise unless your legs are extremely strong, as most people can’t do even a single one. But that’s not the point. The point is I chose an exercise that “taxed” my muscles so as to create the “stimulus” for them to get stronger, which in turn leads to maintaining, or gaining the muscle I have, helps keep my metabolsim high, and helps keep the fat off my body.

But more importantly, I chose NOT to give myself an excuse for NOT working out that day because I didn’t have the time, and instead got a little creative, and got a fantastic workout in only 15 minutes. It was a sunny day too so I also got some critically important Vitamin D benefits from the sun.

What can YOU do that will allow you to exercise either at home, or at work, without having to go to the gym, and using your bodyweight only as the resistance?

The old ’standards’ apply here every time:

Pushups (hand shoulder width, hands wide, and hands close together)/bent-knee situps/full, deep-knee squats (keeping your back arched which tightens the lower back muscles – stabilizing your spine). Pull-ups (if you have access to a bar – Walgreens sells one, I believe it’s called the Ultimate Pullup Bar), or, if you’re a woman, just move the chairs away from a table, slide your body under it (face up) while grabbing the edge of the table, then pulling up with your arms so you are doing kind of an “upside-down” pushup. This works the upper back and the front part of your arms. Also if you’re a woman, you can do regular pushups on your knees. JUST REMEMBER… if you’re not taxing your muscles, i.e., if the exercise is too easy, then it’s not doing you any good.

You don’t have to slave away at exercise. You just have to “stimulate” your body to get better (all it takes is 15 minutes), then get the heck on with life.

I’d love to hear from the “knowledgable” folks reading this what other types of bodyweight exercises you know about or have done. Please let me know in your comments below.

So, no excuses everyone! There’s always the time to exercise… if you ever DO say you don’t have the time… you’re just lying to yourself…

Now go kick some Butt!

I was actually hoping for a positive result from you. Ever since I started telling family and friends about this new way of eating, most of them have started on a plan of their own. My cousin-in-law (whom we just visited in upstate NY and Vermont) just called me today. He started his plan last Wednesday and called me this afternoon to tell me that he’s lost 3.5 lbs in 7 days. He told me today was his second “high-calorie” day and had eaten 2 slices of pizza, chocolate, cake, cookies, a whole lot more (he kept rambling on about all the food he had been eating – was getting a huge kick out of the fact he lost weight and still was able to eat his favorite junk foods). But he had questions about a lot of things I answered for him. He might have floundered… maybe even failed eventually, if I didn’t set him on the correct path. No fault of his, he just hadn’t spent any time studying how the body works most effectively to lose fat and what types of foods will trigger the quickest fat loss.

So, by you saying yes to my video streams (please watch for an email notification – I have to get it set up – anyone know anything about Ustream?) I can now help to answer some of the questions you’re bound to have about a lot of things. Things I haven’t even considered — but most likely have the answer to (if I don’t I’ll tell you and get you an answer if I can).

So, please look for an email notification today (12/10/08) about when I’m putting this on. My plan is to have one on Thursday, then another one next Monday. Then, I’ll put on a couple of teleseminars next week where I’ll put on a couple of the people I’ll be starting to personally help starting tomorrow (those of you that have an entry please be checking your email – I need to get in touch with you after I choose so we can hit the ground running right away). They’ll be sharing with you their success after 1 week.

So please start putting together the questions you want answered and I’ll do my best to get to most of them. Please start by posting your questions here. Once the Ustream Live streaming starts you’ll be able to ask me live questions, but they’ll typically zip by too quickly for me to capture them. So I’ll typically be answering all of the questions from the ones I get here on my blog.

Thanks all!
