Fat Burning Tips Redux

“Hello?”

“Hi, it’s Susanne Phillips, do you know who I am?” began the call.

“Why yes, I do know who you are Susanne”, I nearly choked. You see, Susanne was the mother of Bill Phillips, the owner of EAS and originator of the Body For Life contest, the one I had entered that year (technically Body For Life didn’t originate until the next year, but that’s another story for another time).

“Good!” said Susanne, “because we’ve been trying to get in touch with you for a couple of weeks and I’d almost given up!”, she exclaimed.

“You’re a finalist in this year Physique Transformation contest and I wanted to speak with you a bit and ask you a couple of questions… do you have a moment?”

Do I have a “moment”? she asked? I mean, come on, the mother of the one person I had so admired was calling me on the phone asking me if I had a moment to talk about being a finalist in the biggest body transformation contest in the world?  Uhhhh, well… “Yes!”

That conversation started a 2 week road to discovering the ultimate secret to really getting in shape. It was nothing about the latest fat burning  tips, or some rehashed science spouted as new, or a miraculous supplement that would magically transform my body.

No, the secret was using the power of psychology.

When Susanne called, I was out of shape. That’s right, from the time I finished my contest entry packet on Sept 19 of that year, to early December when Susanne called, I had let myself get out of shape again.

My father died a month after finishing my contest and it sapped any desire I had for staying in shape. So out of shape I got again, and in short order too.

So when Susanne said I was a finalist, and then even worse, when Bill Phillips himself called me personally the following day congratulating me on my win (yes, I won), I knew right there I was in a deep, deep pile of doo-doo.

Picked a winner from an entrant pool of over 200,000 people that year, I was supposed to reflect what a healthy, strong, lean physique was supposed to look like. Yet I was out of shape a mere 13 days prior to going to Golden, Colorado for the awards ceremony. Sheesh! How did I get myself into this mess? And why did I ever let myself get so out of shape again.

After crying for a couple of hours over what “could have been’s”, I made a decision to do everything in my power to transform my body once again.

And guess what… I did it. But I could not have done it without the immense power of psychology. I didn’t know it then, but now I know I discovered the true “missing ingredient” and real “secret” to getting AND staying in great shape.

And it all starts with your mind…

And this is what I promised you a couple of posts ago that would really make the difference in your ability to burn fat, and keep fat off too.

I’ve searched far and wide for a program that would help others in this regard. When it happened to me it was like a switch went off in my head and I just “knew” I would get back into shape again.

But I couldn’t really teach this.

After much searching I discovered a program that works  the psychology of how you view things, to help you make the mental switch to “do the right things” without it  being so hard.

So If you are having problems with losing weight (we know
sticking to a diet can be difficult), then this message will
be the most important message you will ever read.

Here’s why:

A major-league weight loss psychotherapist, Dr. Roberta
Temes, has finally decided to publish the same sessions she
uses with celebrities and other VIP New York clients.

These hypnosis sessions allow them to follow the advice
of their dieticians almost effortlessly, even with their
hectic schedules.

She has had great success in working with people who have
problems following their eating and exercise plans . . . the
plans that they KNOW they need to use in order to get to and
maintain their ideal weights.

Although she has worked with some celebrities we cannot name,
she has also helped normal people finally gain control
over cravings that they never believed they would overcome.

Ann Carlo from Sag Harbor, New York is an example:

****************************************************

“Enjoying Weight Loss is fabulous. Thought I forgot all about
it yesterday, until I realized that I ate breakfast (which
I rarely do), drank a lot of water, had a veggie dinner and
DIDN’T EAT ANY SUGAR . . . A MIRACLE! Can’t convince me that
this system does not operate on some level . . . even though
you’re not always conscious of it at the time.”

****************************************************

Dr. Temes is on the Department of Psychiatry at the SUNY
Health Science Center Medical School, so everything she does
is based on research and not “pop” psychology.

This is not the typical weight loss program that you might
be used to seeing. It is not a “diet” or a “workbook” and it
won’t try to psychoanalyze you with a bunch of “inner child”
mumbo-jumbo.

It is straight clinical hypnosis from the author of
Medical Hypnosis, the first hypnosis textbook used in
medical schools.

Here are some of the amazing things you will learn
when you go through Dr. Temes’ seven-session program:

  • How to stop your cravings instantaneously, allowing you to stop binging before you start.
  • How to get off the diet roller coaster. (Learn how to move from being a “dieter” to being someone who is permanently healthy.)
  • How to create new neural pathways that empower you to replace unhealthy eating habits with healthy ones.
  • Why willpower will not work long term, and how to create effortless motivation.
  • How to eliminate your desire for sodas and replace them with a craving for WATER!

And that’s just a tiny fraction of what you’ll learn
how to do in this 4-CD audio program.

The best part about this program is that it uses hypnosis,
so there are no guidebooks or things you are supposed
to do later. All you do is spend 15 minutes a day listening
to the sessions and the changes start to happen. Most people
notice a dramatic change within just 21 days!

This program comes with an iron-clad 1 YEAR
no-questions-asked money back guarantee, and it’s easy to
order.

Best of all, because it is so important to your health that
you get this program, I’ve negotiated a special deal for you.

This offer, which includes the complete Enjoying Weight Loss
4-CD program and over $75 of valuable bonuses, will cost you
less than $100. But only if you order in the next week, or
until supplies run out.

To your health,

Harry Johnson Jr.

P.S. This program is recommended by doctors, trainers,
and dieticians who use it to help their clients with
diet adherence:

“I have been using the Enjoying Weight Loss
program with my patients who tell me they don’t even think
about ‘bad’ food anymore . . . it’s just a fact in their
mind. They find it easy to change self-destructive behavior
and ’stay with the program’ that I recommend. This has
always been my biggest challenge as a clinician.”

A lot of people ask me if they should hire a personal trainer. Is it worth the money? Will they get the results they are expecting?

Well, this is a tricky question because the answer is, it all depends. First of all, it depends on the person. Are they really motivated to lose weight? Will they be honest in their nutritional choices and follow the trainer’s advice? But there is another really, really important question to ask, and that is “WHO is the trainer?”

The problem with personal trainers is, they are every where. Any gym you go to has personal trainers, the internet is teeming with them. Also, there are several institutions that offer certification classes to potential trainers, but only a handful of these are nationally accredited institutions-and that fact alone makes a HUGE difference in the QUALITY of training and preparation a trainer receives.

Fitness trainers are supposed to be professionals that (along with your doctor’s o.k) can create and guide you through a fitness program that is right for you. Their job is more than just providing you with fat burning tips and an occasional “good job” during a session. They are supposed to help keep you on course and teach you how to properly perform fitness exercises appropriate for your fitness level and aspirations. They should help keep you stimulated and inspired through your fitness journey.

But then again, as with other entities included in the fitness world, not all fitness trainers are created equal. They may vary from the different trainings that they have, the health education they have acquired, and the skills that they have learned.

That’s why it is extremely important to consider some factors that will determine if a certain fitness trainer is right for you. Here is what you should know before selecting a trainer:

1. Certification: Like any item or product, the quality is sometimes measured and determined through the certification that goes with it.

A good trainer will do more than just throw fat burning tips your way. He or she should be able to track your progress an help you keep focused among other things.

A good trainer will do more than just throw fat burning tips your way. He or she should be able to track your progress and help you keep focused among other things.

So, before you choose your fitness trainer, it is important to verify if the trainer is duly certified by aa accredited institution. It is also best to choose a trainer that is CPR certified and trained in emergency first aid.

2. Educational background/Trainings: Even though it is not necessary, trainers who have acquired additional education connected with health or any other related field will definitely have an edge over the others.

3. Does the trainer give you the attention you need and deserve? A good fitness trainer should be able to give his or her undivided attention to a client during a paid session. In this way, the trainer will be able to focus more on the details that need attention and immediate considerations. If you have paid for group sessions, be sure the trainer provides adequate attention to each client and is experienced in dealing with more than one client at a time.

4. Does the trainer know how to track a clients progress? Is he or she organized and prepared for sessions? It is best to choose a fitness trainer that knows how to track his or her client’s progress as far as fitness is concerned. In this way, the trainer will be able to generate new activities and trainings designated for a particular result for a specific client. Also as in any job, the trainer should be presentable and well-organized. This is a good reflection of his or her ability to effectively conduct a session.

5. What kind of personality does the trainer have? We are all differnt and we are all motivated by different forms of training. Some people need to hear more encouraging words to keep moving while others love the “boot camp” style of training. Whatever you prefer, be sure that the trainer is effectively communicating whether or not you are headed in the right direction. You will be spending quite a bit of one-on-one time with your trainer so be sure it is someone who is compatible with your personality while still giving you the “tough love” you need to reach your fitness goals.

Having a personal trainer can be a huge asset so long as he or she is the right match for you AND possesses the necessary knowledge, education, and experience to help you achieve your goals. So, one of the most important fat burning tips I can give you is: do your homework BEFORE hiring a trainer and be sure he or she is right for you.

Strength training or weight lifting is the lifting of weights and/or resistance in a prescribed manner as an exercise or in athletic competition. Notice I said weights and/or resistance. It doesn’t have to necessarily be a weight plate or a dumbbell. There are numerous TV reports, magazine articles, radio shows that explain all of the benefits of lifting weights, yet so many women seem to not be “hitting the weights” for one reason or another. One very probable reason is that they don’t know how much lifting weights will actually change their body (more so than even running or any other cardiovascular activities).

Another reason is that a lot of women are confused about what to do exactly (what exercises, how many repetitions,

how many sets, etc.). This article will help shed some light on why it is so important that every woman be involved in and adhering to a strength training program. You actually might be involved in a strength-training program right now. Even if you are, I want you to really pay attention to what we’re going to cover for the rest of the article.  I’m sure it is going to have you thinking differently about why you should be lifting weights from now on.

We’re going to talk about why developing a strength training program will ultimately help you lose weight, add some muscle tone, look better and feel better about yourself. It is one of the best fat burning tips I can give you. We will go over some “myths” about strength training and the real facts behind them. So, whether you’re new to strength training or you’ve been doing it for years, pay close attention. Let’s first clear up some of the misconceptions about strength training and the truth behind these myths.

This first myth is the “biggie” and it has prevented many women from strength training. It sounds a little something like this: “I don’t want to lift weights because I don’t want to get bulky.” Let’s explore that myth a little. When you think of weight lifters, you probably think of body builders, right? You think of the men and women on ESPN parading around in little swimsuits with big bulky muscles popping out all over the place. There are three reasons for this:

1. These people are an extremely minute percentage of the population.

2. That is their livelihood and they spend 4 to 5 hours a day in the gym.

3. Many of them are using performance-enhancing drugs (steroids, etc.) to look like that.

So if you can get that image of the “bodybuilder” out of your head and think in terms of the average everyday person, you will see why the myth about getting bulky is just that, a myth! What we’re going to talk about next is simple. When you lift weights your body builds muscle. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn (even at rest).   The more calories you burn the less you weigh.

Now you might say to yourself, “But if I lift weights, my muscles will get bigger, I will appear big and bulky, and wind up weighing more.” This is also a myth. That myth being one of the most popular in the world of exercise, which is, “muscle weighs more than fat.” That’s like the old joke, “What weighs more–10 lbs. of steel or 10 lbs. of feathers?” Hopefully by now you know that the answer to that question is that they both really weigh the same.  10 lbs. is 10 lbs. no matter what it is made of. Let’s examine this point in a little more detail.

Muscle is much more compact than fat. It actually takes up less space than fat does because of its density. That makes sense, right? Fat, on the other hand, is very soft and jelly-like and occupies more space than muscle does.  Let me give you another example to clarify this a little more. If you were to take 10 lbs. of fat and 10 lbs. of muscle and roll each of them into a ball, the 10 lbs. of fat might be the size of a bowling ball. In comparison, the 10 lbs. of muscle would be about the size of a baseball. Now let’s use this as a real life example using woman #1 and woman #2 in an example.

Let’s say for arguments sake, both women are 5′ 5″ tall and both weigh 140 lbs. Woman #2 does not lift weights or do any kind of strength training. Her dress size is a size 12. Woman #1 on the other hand, lifts weights and follows a strength-training program each week.  Her dress size is a size 8. If these women were standing side by side people would definitely think that woman #1 weighed less than woman #2. But in reality they both weigh exactly the same. How can that be? Think of what I said before, muscle takes up less space than fat. Of those 140 pounds that each woman weighs, what’s the percentage of fat and muscle on each woman?

I would venture to guess that woman #1 has a very low body fat percentage and woman #2 has a much higher body fat percentage. How did woman #1 get such a low percentage of body fat?  Two words—STRENGTH TRAINING (in addition to cardio exercise and eating healthy, but this article is just touting the immense benefits of strength training). That brings up another good point I’d like to make. The weighing scale is the worst indicator of losing FAT. It will tell you that you’ve lost weight, it’s great at that. But what if you lose 10 pounds of fat and replace it with 10 pounds of muscle?  Will you have lost weight? According to the scale, NO! Will you have lost FAT? Absolutely, and I guarantee that your clothes will be a lot looser on you and you will look and feel a lot better. If you can do one thing with your scale I would recommend throwing it in the garbage, or at least getting rid of it.

So, I hope some of you ladies out there got a little useful information and fat burning tips from this article. In the least, I hope you are at least a bit more receptive to the idea of strength training. Give it a try and I guarantee that along with a healthy, balanced diet and some cardio/ aerobic exercise you should be on your way to fitness excellence!
