Don't give up hope on your exercise training program because of one "not so healthy" weekend.

many of us, that might mean back to our structured eating and exercise training program. Yesterday I gave you some tips on trying to stay focused despite the holiday, but more often than not we all sneak in a little treat or two! So, now what?

First and foremost, if you did slip up and eat a bit more than you should have, don’t throw away all your hard work and effort because of one day. You are allowed to enjoy yourself here and there, and remember, you are human. Don’t go into a rut and keep from exercising because you feel “it’s all downhill”. Secondly, bring out your exercise training plan again and take a good, long hard look at what you need to do. Do you have a contract with yourself? In writing? If not, take this opportunity to do it now. Promise yourself, in writing, that you will strive to achieve your health and fitness goals. Sign and date the document-this makes it all the more real and more difficult to “break a promise” to yourself.

Now the next thing you should do after a “not so healthy” weekend? Make up for lost time! Don’t sit around moping, rather head over to the gym and give 110% effort during your workout. Maybe put in an extra mile on the treadmill, or a few extra laps in the exercise pool at the gym. The important thing is to keep on moving. Every day is a new day to be better than you were before. Seize the opportunity and keep your eyes on your goal.

On Friday afternoon after you leave work, you probably think about going out and having a few drinks with friends to relax and wind down. Even though you may think you deserve to go out and have a few drinks, there are some things that you should certainly keep in mind so you don’t diminish all the hard work and effort you put into your exercise training program.

Like any other day, tomorrow is going to be a day for exercise, and since you are exercising on a regular basis, a few

Too much alcohol can ruin the effects of your exercise training program. Remember to drink moderately and never feel pressured to drink more than you bargained.

drinks of alcohol won’t really hurt anything, right? Before you decide to rush out to the local bar, there are a few things below that you should think about before you make your choice about going out to drink some alcohol.

Research has proven that even small amounts of alcohol will increase muscular endurance and the output of strength, although these types of benefits are very short lived. After 20 minutes or so,the problems will begin to surface. All of the negative side effects associated with alcohol will easily outweigh any possible benefits that it can have. No matter how you look at it, alcohol is a poison that can really harm your body if you aren’t careful.

Alcohol can reduce strength, endurance, aerobic capability, recovery time, ability to metabolize fat, and even your muscle growth. Alcohol will also have an effect on your nervous system and brain. If you use it long term, you can cause severe deterioration of your central nervous system. Even with short term use,nerve- muscle interaction can be reduced which will result in a loss of strength.

Once alcohol reaches the blood cells, it can and probably will damage them. With alcohol users, inflammation of the muscle cells is a very common thing. Over periods of time, some of these cells that have been damaged can die which will result in less functional muscle contractions. Drinking alcohol will also leave you with more soreness of your muscles after you exercise, which means that it will take you a lot longer to recuperate.

Alcohol will also affect your heart and circulatory system. When you drink any type of alcohol, you may begin to see a reduction in your endurance capabilities. Anytime you drink, your heat loss will increase, due to the alcohol simulating your blood vessels to dilate. The loss of heat can cause your muscles to become quite cold, and therefore slower and weaker during your muscle contractions.

Drinking alcohol also lead to digestive and nutrition problems. Alcohol consumption triggers a release of insulin that will increase the metabolism of glycogen, which spares fat and makes fat loss even more difficult. Prolonged alcohol use also interferes with the absorption of several key nutrients, which can lead to vitamin deficiencies.

Drinking on a regular basis also puts extra stress on your kidneys and liver. These are key organs in helping your body “return to normal” after you drink and all the added stress can cause a lot of damage.

Now does this mean you can never drink? Of course not. It’s like I have been telling you all along-MODERATION is the key. If you are going to go out to a party every so often, make up your mind beforehand that you will have no more than 1 beer for example. Also remember that we all come in different sizes. A 200-pound man will be less affected by a glass of wine, for example, than a 120-pound woman.

And I know it sounds cliche, but don’t ever feel pressured to drink more than you have planned-it’s not fair to yourself and all the hard work you have put into to your exercise training program.

In a long-term study of the health of the people of in the United States, the U.S. Public Health Service documented the chances of developing heart disease among various groups in the population. Long before the any symptoms appeared, epidemiological research could identify high-risk groups. Among the highest risk factors are male sex, age over 35, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, high levels of certain blood fats, and a family history of cardiovascular disorders. Other researchers have added to this list another risk factor: the compulsive, hard-driving, highly anxious personality. The greater the number of risk factors, the greater the person’s overall risk.

These threats to the heart can be divided into two main categories: those beyond individual

A sedentary lifestyle and smoking greatly increases your chances of a heart attack. Quitting smoking and getting on a regular exercise training program will greatly reduce your risk and help you get in shape.

control, such as age, sex, and heredity, and those that can be controlled, avoided, or even eliminated. Among those in the second category are what cardiologists call “the triple threat.” These are the high blood pressure, cigarette smoking, and high cholesterol levels in the blood. If you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, your risk of having a heart attack is twice that of a nonsmoker. If you smoke, have hypertension, and eat a diet high in fats without any exercise at all, your risk is five times greater than normal.

If these risk factors endanger the heart’s health, what enhances its well-being and improves its odds of working long and well? Obviously, quitting cigarettes and eating a low-fat diet will help. The next best thing you can do for your heart’s sake is to give it what it needs: regular exercise training. The heart is a muscle, or, more accurately, a group or “package” of muscles, similar in many ways to the muscles of the arms and legs. And just as exercise training strengthens and improves limb muscles, it enhances the health of the heart muscles as well.

Since World War II, several large-scale statistical studies have evaluated the relationship between physical activity and cardiovascular disease. One well-known survey compared 31,000 drivers and conductors of some bus companies. The more sedentary drivers had a significantly higher rate of heart disease than the conductors, who walked around the buses and climbed stairs to the upper level.

The why and how behind these statistics were best explained by classic experiments with dogs whose coronary arteries were surgically narrowed to resemble those of humans with arteriosclerosis. Dogs who exercised regularly had much better blood flow than those kept inactive. The exercise seemed to stimulate the development of new connections between the impaired and the nearly normal blood vessels, so exercised dogs had a better blood supply to all the muscle tissue of the heart. The human heart reacts in the same way to provide blood to the portion that was damaged by the heart attack.

To enable the damaged heart muscle to heal, the heart relies on new small blood vessels for what is called

Regular exercise training has many benefits on overall health and well being and greatly decreases your risk of heart disease.

collateral circulation. These new branches can develop long before a heart attack – and can prevent a heart attack if the new network takes on enough of the function of the narrowed vessels. With all these facts, it is now boiled down to a single question: What should be done in order to prevent such dilemmas?

Some studies showed that moderate exercise several times a week is more effective in building up these auxiliary pathways than extremely vigorous exercise done twice often. The general rule is that exercise helps reduce the risk of harm to the heart. Some researches further attested the link between exercise and a healthy heart based from the findings that the non-exercisers had a 49% greater risk of heart attack than the other people included in the study. The study attributed a third of that risk to sedentary lifestyle alone.

So by doing cardio interval training, you can absolutely expect positive results not only on areas that concern your cardiovascular system but on the overall status of your health as well.
Take a look at just a few of the benefits:

1. The threats of heart attack are lessened, if not eliminated

2. Enhances cardiac output (blood pumped from the heart in each beat)

3. Increased metabolism, which in turn helps you burn more calories

4. Improves lung capacity

5. Helps alleviate tension and stress

With all this great news about the benefits of exercising it is amazing how so many peopkle still CHOOSE to be inactive. That’s right. You have a CHOICE. I know, you are busy: work, school, kids….We all have our hectic schedules, but taking care of ourselves should be right up there on that list of priorities. Taking charge of your health now will prevent future health problems, allowing you to better enjoy a happier, more fulfilling life.

between often causes women’s personal needs to take a back seat to other concerns. There are numerous reasons why women need to include exercise training into their daily routines. Of course, there is the obvious benefit of shaping a slimmer body but did you know that exercise for women has also been proven to alleviate depression, help prevent colon cancer and boost your immune system? In addition, regular exercise for women helps prevent osteoporosis by strengthening bones. Many women find that exercise relieves the symptoms of premenstrual tension (PMT), painful periods as well as pre- and post-menopausal symptoms.

Women who are physically fit before and during pregnancy often have less severe back and labor pain and experience easier deliveries than women who are unfit. Furthermore, fit mothers-to-be are less apt to become overweight and regain their pre-pregnancy figures much more quickly after giving birth. In addition to improving their appearance and overall health, many women say that exercise helps to boost their self-confidence in all aspects of their lives.

Mary McElroy, professor of kinesiology at Kansas State University says, “Exercising gives women a sense of accomplishment, which is related to self-esteem. It can have a powerful effect on self-image. I would take the benefits of exercise beyond health. Exercise is an important component of one’s quality of life.”

In recent years, there has been a boom in the variety of workouts for women as well as an increased availability of exercise and physical recreational options, including online fitness programs–primarily because more and more women are taking a serious interest in keeping themselves fit and strong. Studies have shown that a combination of cardio and strength and flexibility training including walking, running, climbing stairs, kickboxing, yoga, cycling at a moderate pace and other recreational pursuits help women to stay healthier, happier and more productive as compared to more sedentary women.

Exercise is beneficial to everyone, regardless of age or gender, but especially for women who many times are the multi-taskers of the family and need some “me time” to relieve stress and get back on track. So as busy as all you girls are out there, try to squeeze in at least 30 minues to an hour a day to get your heart pumping and feeling better.

We have all heard the term “over-training”, but what does the term mean really? Well, it can mean different things to different people depending on what activity, exercise training or sport is involved. Mostly, it means too much, too often at too high of an intensity level, and our bodies suffer the consequences. For example, if you have been weight-lifting or resistance training, you will understand how great it is to see your body change so dramatically and how easy it would be to just increase training intensity and frequency too quickly in hopes of greater, faster results. Of course, rationally, we all know this is a big mistake. But, the desire for an even better shape and “feel good” chemicals called endorphins, can cause us to do just a bit too much, too fast, leading to chronic pain and injury.

Over-training, or “over exertion” as it is sometimes called, can lead too such things as

Over-exertion is a dangerous consequence of pushing yourself too hard, too fast while exercise training.

tendonitis, pulled or torn muscles, painful and serious rotator cuff injuries, and “burn out”, where an athlete is physically too worn out and drained to exercise at all. Some symptoms of burn out or overexertion can include dizziness, fainting spells, chills, fever, or more serious symptoms such as shock or convulsions. The muscles of the body just simply “give out”, completely exhausted and unable to function.

Now this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t work hard. It only means you need to know your limits and up to what intensity you can train without jeopardizing your health or well-being. Remember that muscles need rest between exercise training workouts. Working the same muscles in the same way too often results in injury and a reduction in performance. When a muscle is over-tired, the load is taken into the joint. Joints are not designed for load they are designed for movement. Tendonitis and joint pain are also pretty common indicators of over-training.

Another good thing to remember is that variety is very beneficial in any workout regimen. This is why we fitness instructors recommend doing different sports or fitness activities. But for “die hard” weight lifters, variation can be accomplished in a variety of ways. One common way is to work different muscle groups on different days. Another method is to change the way in which a particular exercise is performed so as to train the muscles differently.

As much as you may love to workout, remember that when the risks out-weigh the benefits, it’s time to revise your workout plan. Train safe and keep your workouts SMART!

Building onto yesterday’s post about the importance of exercise training for the abdominal muscles… Read on! This is some great info for any of you with lower back pain due to injury…

Sciatica refers to the pain caused by the compression or irritation in the nerves at the lower end of the spine. Sciatica

Many people suffering from sciatica-including athletes-find relief in performing sciatica exercise training techniques.

is also known as radiculopathy, which refers to the extension of the spinal disc beyond the normal position, resulting in the pressure on the sciatic nerve which runs from the lower back down the length of the leg.

Such a condition can often result in “radiating” pain in the back and legs. The best remedy for the treatment of this kind of pain is sciatica exercise training. Although it is often believed that bed rest helps in such a condition, inactivity usually worsens the pain in sciatica patients. Lack of movement weakens the back muscles and the spinal structures, thus resulting in increased pressure on the back and consequently more pain. Also, when people become inactive, the tendency is to gain weight and lose muscle, which would have a negative effect not only on your physical appearance but also in the treatment of sciatica.

Sciatica exercise training is very important for health and fitness of the human back and spine. Sciatica exercises focus on strengthening the abdominal and back muscles. These exercises include stretching, which helps in improving the flexibility of the back muscles, resulting in reduced pain. Doctors recommend different exercises for sciatica patients, depending on the cause of sciatica, which can also occur due to serious medical conditions such as an infection or tumor. One has to do these exercises regularly and in a proper manner in order to derive maximum benefit.

Exercising regularly not only helps in the treatment of sciatica-related pain, but also helps in the prevention of any such problems in the future. The most common sciatica exercises that are recommended for the treatment of sciatica-related pain are the Hamstring stretching exercises. The hamstrings are the muscles located in the back of the thigh and help in bending the knee. Exercises to strengthen the abdominal muscles are also imperative in order to get relief from the sciatica pain.

Of course, it is always a good idea to check with your health care provider before starting any new exercises, especially if you experience any type of pain or pre-existing conditions.

While we all suffer from set backs throughout life, these obstacles and how we deal with them determine our character. Don’t allow injury to prevent you from reaching your goals!

While this may be manageable to some people, for others it may seem very difficult, or even impossible to fit into their busy schedules.

If you are one of those people having trouble finding the time to exercise, try burning some extra calories throughout your daily activities. For example, park your car further from the grocery store to walk more, take the stairs in front of the elevator, or even ride your bike to work or school instead of driving. Go outside and clean the yard, mow the lawn, walk the dog a extra few blocks, or just play with your kids-all these activities burn extra calories. Just bending and stretching to pick up leaves and trash will burn calories.

While we are all busy people, we need to try to find time to take care of our Our bodies are the vehicles that carry us through our ever important business meetings, conferences, interviews, lectures, or any other routine activities that encompass our days. Al though it may seem hard to do, find time for you-for your health, and I promise you that you won’t regret it!

Ok, here’s the thing… I’ve been “really” pushing the envelope lately on my “anything goes” days. Both on the number of calories I’ve been eating, and the types of foods as well. (My exercise training, in spite of my injured ribs, has also been going phenomenally well.)

Here’s what I discovered.

1. If you do everything right leading up to the “anything goes” day, you literally have a license to eat anything, and I do mean “whatever you want” in any quantity you want, and nothing bad will happen in terms of gaining fat, or retracing whatever progress you’ve made to that point. In fact, I’ve discovered you will actually lose fat faster when you have these higher-calorie, higher carbohydrate days.

2. If you want the absolute best results then you should try and control your fat intake on these “anything goes” days. Choose foods that are high in carbohydrates (doesn’t matter the types of carbs – they could be simple or complex – doesn’t make a difference), i.e., bread, pasta, rice, cereals (think Sugar Frosted Corn Flakes – my favorite), low-fat ice creams, sorbets, low-fat frozen yogurts, etc. Eat as much of these foods as you like — no lie. My findings, as well as those from my clients, are proving this method is the nirvana for getting into your absolute best shape quickly, and easily.

3. If your exercise training is done a certain way the day after these high-carbohydrate days (high intensity interval exercise training on the morning after), and take certain supplements (branched chain amino acids in the right doses for your body weight) both prior to this exercise training session as well as twice per day over the next 3 days, your fat loss results are accelerated even more.

The reason I’m bringing this to your attention today is because yesterday I set an all-time calorie record. I ate a “Michael Phelps-like” 9,000+ calories! Not only that, but over 50% of these calories consisted of fat calories. Not exactly my prescription high-calorie day (remember, high carbohydrates works best), but another test of the limits I could go and still be able to lose fat.

When I woke up today I checked my body fat readings and found that 1 area of my body went up 1 mm in thickness, while another area went down 1 mm — a wash. So while I did not go down in readings after this high calorie day (as is the usual outcome), it did not affect me negatively… and this was an EXTREME eating day.

The genius of how you can eat so much food and lose more fat by eating this way (vs traditional low-calorie dieting – which is for the birds!) is in the details. If you get those details right, reducing your fat every single time you overeat on carbohydrates is as reliable as a Swiss watch.

Would you like to learn these details? Well, you have the opportunity for me to personally coach you to this kind of consistent success, for FREE. Anyone that knows anything knows that good coaches cut the learning curve dramatically; this is a given. And, in most cases, make the difference between achieving success… or failure without them. Even the best in the world have coaches guiding them. Think Tiger Woods’ swing coach, psychologist, and trainer. Every top athlete in the world has great coaching teaching them to be even more successful.

My Amazing Fat Burning Formula course, which is a real value at only $29.95, has all of the information you need to make tremendous changes with your body. But here’s one thing I found, and it’s still strange to me to this day. People that have gotten my course, when I’ve gotten them on a phone call, or a question and answer webinar, invariably ask me questions that are directly answered in my manual. It’s uncanny how time and time again this happens. What’s more unnerving is the number of people that do get my manual, but somehow don’t assimilate all of the information that’s in there correctly. They think it should be done one way, when the manual clearly says NOT to do it that way.

WELL I AIM TO PUT A STOP TO THAT!

I want you to achieve the kind of fitness success you deserve.

This is why I’m hosting a Free Webinar on July 7th, 2009, at 9:00 PM EST. I will attempt to answer all of your questions about getting into great shape quickly, and easily, as well as details about my program. I can only hold 200 people, and I’m not only sending this email to my list of 97,000 subscribers, but also my fitness partners will send their clients as well. I can promise you those 200 slots will go quickly.

So if you’re interested in me revealing the details and secrets of how to achieve your ultimate shape, regardless of present condition, shape, or age, then you should circle July 7th on your calendar at 9:00 PM EST for the “tell-all-secrets” seminar that will rock your world.

I woke up at 10:30 am today.

Pretty late huh? Well, I did go to bed at 3:30 am the night before…

Are you burning the candle so much you're not regularly doing your exercise training program?

I immediately went over to my mom’s to get her breakfast going (she is suffering from Alzheimer’s and doesn’t cook for herself anymore). I don’t know if you remember how her blood sugar used to be over 200 on a consistent basis just a short 3 weeks ago, going back years. Well, since I’ve been completely in control of her diet, for the past 2 weeks her blood sugar has been less than 120, and for the past 5 days less than 100 even. This morning it was 77. This is a normal blood sugar level for a person without type 2 diabetes. My next step is to wean her off the medication she’s taking to help lower her blood sugar. In fact, today was the first day I didn’t give it to her. We’ll see how she does tomorrow.

I’ll dedicate a blog post in the near future to the diet strategies I’m using to get her blood sugar so low. Believe it or not, it’s based on the diet I have in my Amazing Fat Burning Formula.

After her breakfast I took her to the beach (she lives a couple of blocks away from the ocean) to get some vitamin D. Have you read my post about vitamin D and the sun yet? If not, I’d recommend you do because there is some very important information there.

Don't forget to get some sun to help your exercise training program

By the time I got my mother back home it was past noon already. And by the time I got to the office it was 1:00 pm. Looks like today is going to be a long day as the afternoon will be dedicated to spending time with my son.

So let’s get into 7 ways that can help you stick to an exercise training program.

FIRST
Find an exercise program you enjoy. If you like the exercise you choose, chances are you’re going to want to stick with it.

Find an exercise training program you enjoy!

SECOND
Find something that fits your lifestyle. For example, something that doesn’t require you to go to the mountains to hike, or require special equipment that you don’t have or can’t afford.

THIRD
Make an appointment with yourself to exercise so there’s ALWAYS time that’s scheduled in. Without that reminder, it’s easy to run out of time or rationalize you don’t have enough time to exercise.

Make an appointment for your exercise training program to help you stick with it

FOURTH
Psych yourself up. You have to recognize the benefits of exercise. By doing something you like to do and getting into the habit of doing it, you’ll start to quickly see and feel results. You’ll feel better, develop pride when you finish your workout, and maybe even reduce any stress you may have. After a short while you may notice you’ve gotten stronger or lost some weight. Use these improvements, really focusing on how they make you feel, to help reinforce your positive mental attitude for exercise. If you feel like you need further help, maybe because you might be self-sabotaging yourself. CLICK ON THIS LINK FOR MORE INFO.

FIFTH
Morning is a great time to exercise. It helps get your day started plus you get it done and out of the way. An added benefit is studies have shown that fat-burning is increased if cardio is performed in the mornings on an empty stomach.

SIXTH
Exercise at least three times a week. And try to incorporate activity that exercises your cardiovascular system as well strengthens your muscles. There are many cardiovascular machines available at most every gym. Or, take a quick jog or brisk walk outside (the more intense you do it the more fat you can burn, like the cardiovascular routine I highlight in my Amazing Fat Burning Formula that burns 350% more fat for the same time period than regular cardio).

There are also many recreational sports and exercise classes available that are valuable workouts for the cardiovascular system. Finally, you can incorporate a weight-training workout that exercises your muscles as well as your cardiovascular system at the same time. Here’s the key there: Keep the rest periods short and alternate between a lower body and an upper body exercise; moving from the largest body parts to the smallest as you progress through the workout. This is how my exercise training program is structured in my Amazing Fat Burning Formula and will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

To get the most bang for your exercise training session, move quickly between exercises

SEVENTH
Consistency is key.

Some people, when they get on a program, get fanatical for a few weeks then stop. The key to continued success and results is to develop a habit for exercising. At first don’t worry so much about the intensity of your sessions. It’s more important to have a moderate session and do it consistently over a long period of time.

Write down some goals on what you want to accomplish as well as the number of exercise sessions you want to perform every week. Then tell yourself from the beginning you won’t stop.

A good goal to shoot for is 100 exercise training sessions. Why? Because studies have shown that performing anything 100 continuous times leads to a lifelong habit. Again, review this link for a program that will allow your subconscious to become an ally and help you achieve your goals. CLICK ON THIS LINK FOR MORE INFO.

“Gotta go baby, late for my flight at 8:30am this morning” I hollered as I was zooming out the door to catch a flight for one of the many conferences I attend each year.

Prior to packing my bag I went through my checklist:

Number of pants I needed with matching shirts

Consistent Exercise Training means not forgetting your workout clothes when traveling

underwear
socks
belts
shoes
exercise training sneakers
exercise training shorts
exercise training t-shirts
toiletries

Here’s a trick question for you…

Which of the above packed items do most people NOT pack when they go on a trip?

If you guessed exercise training shorts, sneakers, and t-shirts, you’re right.

Know what else?

When I call the hotels looking for the best deals, I always ask if they have a gym AND what kind of equipment they have in it. If they don’t have what I need I look for another hotel, regardless of the “deal” they’ve got going.

Maintaining a consistent exercise training routine means planning ahead when traveling

Do most people?

Here’s the real deal:

If you don’t start now, I mean as in yesterday, prioritizing your exercise training workouts, making them one of the top “must-do” things you perform on a weekly basis, come hell or high water, then you’ll never get the kind of body you want. Isn’t that why you’re here even reading this?

This is tough, but needed medicine. IF YOU CANNOT MAKE YOUR EXERCISE TRAINING WORKOUTS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN YOUR LIFE then you better stop reading this blog right now, and every other blog, website, ebook, magazine, article, book, diet, etc, about getting in better shape because IT ISN’T GOING TO HAPPEN FOR YOU and you’re wasting your time reading about it but not taking consistent action.

Do you have to force yourself to brush your teeth? No, you do it to prevent tooth decay. It’s an automatic part of your daily life and you always make time for it, no matter what. Is it necessarily fun to brush your teeth? Of course not, it’s a necessary “chore” we do because we don’t want rotted, stained teeth.

Exercise training is the same thing. You don’t want to have to force yourself to exercise, you want to get to the point where it is just NOT AN OPTION to not workout. It is as much a part of your daily life as brushing your teeth is.

Exercise training - must be a habit like brushing your teeth

Do you get what I’m trying to say here?

Once you get to the point where you think about and schedule your weekly workouts, and do not let family, work, or lack of time get in the way of not performing your exercise training sessions, then you know that exercising has become an automatic lifestyle response, like brushing your teeth.

And your new, permanently fit and healthy body is just around the corner.

What are you waiting for?
