<p>after a week or two of trying to win the &#8220;battle of the bulge&#8221;. When it comes to losing weight, perception, in many ways, determines a person&#8217;s success rate. Why? Well, I once read a poster that said it all: &#8220;A winding road can be your path to success or an obstacle leading to failure&#8221;. So what&#8217;s the point of the poster? Well sometimes we only focus on the difficulty of a task or the obstacles in our way, and we lose sight of our goals rather than enjoying the journey.</p>
<p>So rather than seeing exercise as &#8220;a long, tedious, winding road&#8221;, and so on and so forth, change up your attitude and approach toward exercise. Start focusing on the positive, be optimistic, and don&#8217;t lose sight of all the wonderful benefits exercise has to offer. To name a few, you will feel more healthy inside and out, increase your metabolism, lose fat, increase lean muscle, increase cardiac output, and drastically improve your overall quality of life.</p>
<p>All that&#8217;s holding you back sometimes, is attitude. They&#8217;re a saying that success is 10% talent and 90% attitude. That says a lot right there. Keep your goals in mind and remember some of the weight loss tips you have picked up along the way to help maximize your results:</p>
<p>1. Eat in moderation. Balance your diet with the right amounts of whole grains, fresh fruit and veggies, and lean protein.</p>
<p>2. Find an activity you love. If you can&#8217;t stand running around the track, why not take up swimming instead? Or maybe dance lessons, spinning, a step class, boxing, martial arts, or any other option that peaks your interest. Today&#8217;s gyms are filled with choices.</p>
<p>3. Can&#8217;t afford a gym? Take your fitness program outside. Being outdoors creates a pleasurable atmosphere for exercising and is a great change of scenery from the treadmill calorie counter.</p>
<p>4. Bring a buddy. Find a friend with similar goals. Challenge and support eac other along your fitness journey.</p>
<p>5. Make it a family event. Many of you out there ar mother&#8217;s and father&#8217;s. And in today&#8217;s society, childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes are becoming epidemic. Help change the statistics starting in your own home. Have the kids and your spouse join you for a family bike ride or rollerblade session for example. It will unite you as a family and promote fitness at the same time.</p>
<p>Remember attitude is half the battle to ensure success in any <a title="effective weight loss diet" href="http://www.harryjohnsonjr.com/effective-weight-loss-diet/tips-for-an-effective-weight-loss-diet-while-working-from-home/" target="_blank">effective weight loss diet</a>.</p>

Now I know that all of you work hard-please don&#8217;t get me wrong. What I am refering to is what you are going to do AFTER work? Most of us, including myself, are exhausted and mentally drained after a hard day at work. And sometimes, all you really want to do is relax-and what better place to relax than-you guessed it-home?</p>
<p>Now I&#8217;m sure you see where this is going. So how do we avoid becoming overly sedentary and packing on the pounds if we work from home? Maybe it&#8217;s easier said than done, but we</p>

<p>need to FORCE ourselves to be active as part of an <a title="effective weight loss diet" href="http://www.harryjohnsonjr.com/effective-weight-loss-diet/ingredients-of-an-effective-weight-loss-diet/" target="_blank">effective weight loss diet</a>. For example, we all need to eat during the day, right? Well if you&#8217;re working at home and give yourself an hour break, why not split the hour? 30 minutes to eat, and then head outside and take a brisk walk around the block before heading back to the computer.</p>
<p>Speaking of eating-that&#8217;s a whole other issue. With the refrigerator just steps from your &#8220;workplace&#8221; it may be tempting to munch away all day long. Now remember, eating small, frequent meals throughout the day is a great idea and essential to an <a title="effective weight loss diet" href="http://www.weightlossdietnutritiontips.com/effective-wieght-loss.html" target="_blank">effective weight loss diet</a>-BUT, you need to know what and when you are eating.</p>
<p>I recommend writing out a meal plan for the week, and leaving healthy, pre-measured snack options in your fridge. Take almonds for example. They are a great source of mono-unsaturated fat (a.k.a. &#8220;good fat&#8221;), and protein. But, too much of even a good thing is just that-TOO MUCH. By counting out a pre-measured amount of almonds you are less likely to overeat and consume more calories and fat than what you need to reach your fitness goals. Remember that calorie counting is essential to fast weight loss. You need to know how much you are consuming each day.</p>
<p>There are also sme other things you can do to assure that you stick to your fitness plan while working from home:</p>
<p>1. Take small &#8220;stretch breaks&#8221; throughout the day. Researchers have shown that by moving around and doing some light stretching at least every couple of hours helps circulate blood throughout the body and helps keep you more alert on the job.</p>
<p>2. Keep a full glass of water by your side. The usual recommended 8 to 10 glasses per day is a good guideline. Keep a glass of water nearby to help you remember to drink water throughout the workday. This will help keep you alert, hydrated, and helps prevent over-eating.</p>
<p>3. Team up with neighbors or friends that also work from home and plan to meet immediately after you leave the &#8220;office&#8221; for some exercise.  By making a promise to someone to be somewhere, you are more likely to actually, well, be there. You wouldn&#8217;t want to let your friend down and will enjoy having someone to exercise with.</p>
<p>4. Install a chin-up bar in your home office. This is one of my personal favorites. A chin up bar is a great exercise tool and most models fit into a doorway and can be easily removed at any time. Even for those of you that can&#8217;t quite do &#8220;real&#8221; chin-ups yet, this is a great idea. I use the &#8220;assisted chin up&#8221; method (where you use a chair for support to pull yourself up) with many of my clients. Throughout the day, you can do a few chin-ups whenever you head in or out of the room. Just having te equipment there reminds you to be active.</p>
<p>5. Keep a food and exercise log in your daily agenda or Palm Pilot. Make note of everything you eat and all the exercise you fit in throughout the day. This will help keep you focused and on track.</p>
<p>6. As soon as you wake up, &#8220;get ready for work&#8221;. They say that successful people dress the part. Ever heard of &#8220;dressing for success&#8221;? Well, that applies to those of us that work from</p>

<p>home. DO NOT stay in your pajamas all day. This will cause you to be overly comfortable and maybe even a little bit lazy througout the day. Leave the pajamas for Sunday mornings.  This doesn&#8217;t mean you need to put on a suit and tie, but at least ditch the flannel. During the work week, get dressed and have a healthy breakfast before heading off to work.</p>
<p>These are just a few tips for those of you whose daily work commute consists of just a few steps from the master bedroom to the home office. Working from home can actually be beneficial in the sense that you make your own schedule. Just be sure to have a fitness plan and stick to it.</p>

Will power is something that we have to supply ourselves, and without it, every single diet that you attempt will fail.</p>

<p>another. So you may find that when you and your best friend start a diet together, your friend may be doing great and losing pound after pound, but you, are not. It&#8217;s frustrating, but it&#8217;s a fact of life that we are all made up differently. Personally I don&#8217;t recommend diets as such.</p>
<p>Once you restrict your calories, your body will think that there is a food shortage, and it will go into starvation mode. Once in starvation mode it will slow down your metabolism to conserve calories.  You see, our bodies have been programmed from way back when there was not an abundance of food, we had to hunt our food so our meals were not regular. The metabolism regulated the usage of our calories so that in periods of food shortage, we did not waste away and starve.</p>
<p>Now in this day and age there is always food to hand, but our bodies are not aware of this. When you skip a meal your body will go on starvation alert and slow that metabolism right down, which means next time your eat, your body is going to hang right on to those calories and store as much of them as it can as fat.  So, what&#8217;s the solution? There has been tons of research, and in my opinion, the way to move forward is to keep your metabolism ticking at a regular pace. How do you do this? Well, you need to eat small, regular meals, every 2.5 &#8211; 3 hours. Try to include protein in these meals (meat, preferably lean meat i.e. chicken, turkey, tuna) as protein doesn&#8217;t shoot your blood sugar right up and plummet it back down as sugary foods would. Keep your daily calories to a guideline level.</p>
<p>The next part is something that many try to escape, but is an essential part of any<a title="Effective Weight Loss Diet" href="http://www.harryjohnsonjr.com/effective-weight-loss-diet/an-effective-weight-loss-diet-measure-progress/" target="_blank"> effective wight loss diet</a>: you need to EXERCISE!!  For optimal results, you need both cardio and strength training to be part of your routine exercise regimen. This includes everyone, even women, who are sometimes afraid of &#8220;bulking up&#8221;. I am not suggesting to go and hit 50-pound weights ladies, just some light to moderate strength training to tone muscles and increase strength. remember, the more lean muscle you have, the more fat you will burn!</p>

<p>One of the things I did to ensure I was following an <a title="Effective Weight Loss Diet" href="http://www.harryjohnsonjr.com/dieting/how-are-a-turtle-and-a-quick-weight-loss-diet-similar/" target="_self">effective weight loss diet</a> and heading toward success was to measure my progress.  I did this in many ways, from measuring body fat to noting the number of repetitions I could do for specific exercises.  I knew that if my body fat decreased, and the weights and repetitions in my exercise program increased, I was making progress.  If these measurements weren’t moving in the right direction, I knew something was wrong. I also wrote everything down.  This way, I didn’t have to remember what I did yesterday or last week, and I could use the information to help plan workouts and goal weights and reps.</p>

<p>How many people do you know that tell you they work out, yet when you look at them they look the same as they did 2 years before, and they’re still overweight? These people are not practicing a fundamental principle of fitness and exercise: they are not measuring their progress (or lack of it).   If they did, they would realize the lack of progress and conclude that they were not following an <a title="Effective Weight Loss Diet" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2LlsFokVPA&amp;feature=related" target="_blank">effective weight loss diet</a> and exercise program.  They would also realize that something needed to be changed in order to re-start their progress.  But, without measurements, there is no way to know.</p>
<p>The only way to be sure of your progress is to use measuring devices that give you clues as to whether you are headed in the right direction. On the <a href="http://www.amazingfatburningformula.com" target="_blank">Amazing Fat Burning Formula</a> program, for example, you will use a tape measure to take the initial circumference of your chest, upper arms, waist, hips, legs, and calves.  Then, every two weeks, you re-measure to assure progress is being made. If the measurements have not changed, or if they have increased, you know that something is wrong.</p>
<p>And, it is okay to fail, as long as you recognize the lack of progress, identify the problem, and fix it. In most cases, it is diet. You’ll notice that I haven’t said anything about the common scale.  Yet, this is the device that most everyone uses to measure progress.  We have been brainwashed to think that “lost weight” is the best indicator of how we are progressing in a diet/exercise program.</p>
<p>Yes, you will lose weight if you have significant amounts of fat to lose. However, you can be fooled into thinking no progress is being made if the scale doesn’t budge: in fact a great amount of progress can be happening right under your very nose.  Consider this scenario: say that you started your program, faithfully performed your cardio and weight training exercises, and watched your diet very carefully.  After some initial weight loss you notice the scale has not budged in the past 2 weeks. Although your clothes are fitting looser than ever, you still see that the scale is stuck on the same number. Is the scale broken?</p>

<p>This can be a very frustrating time for some, and such discoveries have caused many a casualty in the fat loss wars. In your case, following the <a href="http://www.amazingfatburningformula.com" target="_blank">Amazing Fat Burning Formula</a> program, this is what happened: because you were lifting weights and feeding your muscles the proper nutrients, you were actually increasing your lean muscle mass.  At the same time, and because you were taking in less calories than your body needed, your body was relying on your internal fat stores to make up the calorie difference.</p>
<p>Faithful use of your tape measure would tell you that the inches were still coming off.  So, why didn’t the scale reflect this? There is something about a mirror that deceives and prevents us from seeing changes in progress, or even the out-of-shape condition we allowed ourselves to get in.  It is only when photos are taken and analyzed that we can we truly assess our bodies and the progress we have made. For maximum success I strongly recommend that you take photos of yourself on a regular basis.</p>
<p>Now that you have ways to measure your progress, what happens if your measurements indicate that you are not progressing? It’s ok to have periodic plateaus where the forward progress slows down, or even stops. However, any longer than 3 weeks without progress is cause for concern.  In this case, a review of the guidelines in these Lessons and your <a href="http://www.amazingfatburningformula.com" target="_blank">Amazing Fat Burning Formula</a> manual is critical to pinpointing the cause of your stagnation.  Almost all instances of halted progress can be linked to food issues.</p>

<p>Well, funny you might ask&#8230;</p>
<p>One of the least focused aspects of what an effective weight loss diet should consist of is stress&#8230; or better said, the lack of stress in one&#8217;s life.</p>
<p>Does your mind regularly race? Does it vacillate all over the place? Because if it does, that is causing you stress.</p>
<p>&#8220;So what!&#8221;, you might be thinking&#8230;. &#8220;a little bit of stress can&#8217;t hurt me&#8230; it&#8217;s part of our daily lives and we just have to deal with it&#8221;, you add.</p>
<p>Not so, my errant philosopher friend. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Did you know that stress is one of the body&#8217;s biggest &#8220;agers&#8221;?</span> More specifically, not stress itself, but your body&#8217;s response to the stress is what actually damages you.</p>
<p>Your body has an &#8220;autonomic&#8221; response system the &#8220;revs its engine&#8221; when it encounters stress. This releases hormones that, if left unchecked and without an outlet, have the potential to significantly harm your body.</p>
<p>Also, the hormones dumped into your body by stress (such as cortisol, for one) are potent fat-gaining hormones. Too much cortisol will severely damper your &#8220;effective weight loss diet&#8221;, no matter how good it is.</p>
<p><strong>Yoga has been documented as one of the best stress-relievers. Also super effective is exercise.</strong> Both of these allow your body an &#8220;outlet&#8221; to reset your autonomic system.</p>
<p>Reduced stress, increased weight loss&#8230; two things most of us definitely need more of in today&#8217;s world&#8230;</p>

<p>Listen closely&#8230;. shhhh&#8230; there it is again&#8230;</p>

<p>Cause it made a cool  sound! Vroom, vroooooom! As long as the wheels were spinning we sounded like we had souped up motorcycles. And the faster we went, the louder and fiercer the sound became. We were the terrors of the neighborhood, announcing our arrival everywhere we went. We thought we were so cool&#8230;</p>
<p>Inevitably, those playing cards would disintegrate, or the clotheshangar pin would break, and then there would be silence&#8230; only the rubber of the tires meeting the pavement&#8230; and our excitement and coolness over this &#8220;new&#8221; sound would come to a screeching halt&#8230;</p>
<p>We&#8217;d go through a deck of cards in an afternoon (after all, there were 4 of us and those playing cards and clotheshangars seemed to break quick the faster we went &#8212; and we ALWAYS wanted to go fast).</p>
<p>So our &#8220;motorcycle racing&#8221; careers were typically over before they even got started. Retired before our times, we figured out other ways to entertain ourselves, like the time we were tasked to mop up the floor of my best friend&#8217;s house, but instead we discovered &#8220;pecans and butter&#8221; and &#8220;sliding&#8221; across the floor instead of using the mop&#8230; but that&#8217;s another story for another day.</p>
<p>What the heck does this have to do with an <a title="effective weight loss diet" href="http://www.harryjohnsonjr.com/dieting/fast-weight-loss-challenge-can-eating-junk-food-make-you-lose-weight-quicker/" target="_self">effective weight loss diet</a>?!?, you might ask. Good question&#8230; here&#8217;s how.</p>
<p><span id="more-544"></span></p>
<p>How many people do you think start a new &#8220;<a title="effective weight loss diet" href="http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/01/080111210350.htm" target="_blank">effective weight loss diet</a>&#8221; on an annual basis? You know, the ones so highly promoted by each program that sells <em>their </em>version of the <em>nirvana </em>diet.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s at least in the millions, if not tens of millions annually, right?</p>
<p>How many <em>successes</em> would you suppose come from all those tries at getting in shape?</p>
<p>You <em>should </em>know, because you&#8217;ve tried several diets in the past without success too. We <em>all</em> have.</p>
<p>Listen, I&#8217;m here to tell you there is no magic bullet. Yes, there are things you can do to accelerate your weight (fat) loss, and make it easier to diet (like including your favorite foods &#8212; even junk food &#8212; on a regular basis, for instance). But, the fat won&#8217;t magically come off by itself.</p>
<p>All of us in the gang COULD HAVE become professional motorcycle racers if we really wanted to. Truly! It&#8217;s just we quit when the cards or clotheshangers broke. We stopped trying to become what we thought we wanted so bad&#8230; or did we really not want it <em>that </em>bad.</p>
<p>Maybe you really don&#8217;t want to get in shape <em>that</em> bad. Maybe you&#8217;re just going through the motions because you want to lose a few dress sizes, or you want to look good in a bikini, or you want some ripped abs.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>THESE ARE N-O-T GOOD ENOUGH REASONS MY FRIEND!</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">You need to dig down deep inside and figure out what is really motivating you to change your body. I&#8217;m talking about the deep-seated, psychological reason why you want to get into great shape (We all have one).</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">WHY?</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Because you&#8217;re going to come across the inevitable hurdles and roadblocks that EVERYONE experiences whenever they start a journey of improving their body. I can GUARANTEE YOU that you will. You&#8217;ve probably had &#8220;things&#8221; happen to you in the past that prevented you from getting in shape the <em>last</em> time you tried.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">So the key is in finding that &#8220;thing&#8221; that will get you through the hurdles you&#8217;ll inevitably see. Because this &#8220;thing&#8221; is a truly powerful, and motivational thing you want to see fulfilled. It will override the roadblock that is threatening to make you quit because the pain of not getting your &#8220;thing&#8221; is worse than the perceived pain and effort you&#8217;re experiencing with your roadblock.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">And you have to keep this &#8220;thing&#8221; at the forefront of your daily existence, preferably writing it down on a 3 x 5 card to read before you go to bed, and upon awakeing.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Think this is a bit much?</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Think again, my unbelieving friend.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The best professional athletes use a similar type of imagery to improve their game. It&#8217;s well documented.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I personally used this technique to help me make more changes in 16 weeks, than in the previous 8 years combined. It allowed me to win the 1998 Body For Life contest.</p>
