Try this then:

When you take a shower, start with warm or hot water as you normally do. Then, gradually reduce the temperature such that you barely feel a temperature change. Take about 1-2 minutes to get to the coldest setting. You’ll feel little to no discomfort during this process.

Why?

BAT (Brown Adipose Tissue)

It’s the reason Michael Phelps can consume 12,000 calories per day yet still be ripped. It’s not the amount of work that allows him to eat that much. It’s his activation of BAT that goes into overdrive trying to keep his body warm while he spends hours per day in the pool. Even 82 deg F water activates BAT because your body is, well, 98.6 deg F. This minor difference is enough to activate BAT. The reason why is because water is very thermally conductive. i.e., your body loses a lot of heat very quickly in large bodies of water vs air.

And since your body wants to maintain your 98.6 deg F, it expends a lot of calories trying to do so.

Hence the reason for the cold shower. The way I described how to do it is the most painless way.

Once you reach the coldest setting then go about your business of cleaning up.

Important Point: Concentrate the stream of water on the back of your neck and upper back. This is where humans have the highest concentrations of BAT.

Repeat this twice daily to increase the effects.

This can make a difference in the amount of calories your body burns each day. It might not be a lot of calories, but I believe the literature and science warrants the effort.

Side Note: This kind of repeated exposure to cold has also been scientifically shown to optimize your neurotransmitter hormones as well as your hypothalamo-pituitary-thyroid axis. Sorry for the scientific name, but this means (amongst other things) it increases TRH (Thyroid Releasing Hormone) which is the stimulating hormone for your body to release a cascade of related thyroid hormones like T3, and T4 (both potent metabolism-boosting hormones).
